My brother makes knives so I get to field test them. Here's a few.

The bottom two, Alaska knives alpha wolf and cub bear, are my every day hunting knives. The one above those, spyderco buck moran, is another I will use hunting at times. Thje one above that is a brooks range CRKT, I haven't used. I may end up giving it to my daughter at some time. The one above that was my field knife in the military and the one above that, British commando knife, I traded for when I was in Britain. Carton of cigarettes, bottle of whiskey.

My every day carry at home is a Leatherman Wave. The stuff I do around here, it is much more handy than just a knife.

I also have a Havalon. We use that one on poultry and small game.

Thanks! Those guys make a really great product! Stays razor sharp with regular stropping. I also like using auto body sandpaper on a mouse pad. I prefer sandpaper to most all other sharpening techniques.

Here are a couple knives my stepdad made for my daughter and son. They are made of 440c stainless. He is starting to make more from 154 cm stainless. From the chart, you can see it is slightly better than 440.

Here is more info/details on the Alaska knives. The one I have is the S30V Alpha and D2 Cub. At some point I am going to get the Bush Camp knife. I don't really have a big use for it but I just like it a lot.

Bruce, the first 2 you linked are made with D2. Very good grade tool steel but is not stainless and will rust. Just keep it oiled and it will last forever. However, the s30v is a stainless. The first link is listed as d2 or s30v

The 3rd is aus-10 which is a stainless that is very similar to 440c. I did not know that, just a quick google. :D

Yeah, I have no problem paying someone for their time, art and craftsmanship to create something for me that I cannot but wish I could! I love a handmade custom knife.....worth every penny in the field and the kitchen...

As for kitchen knives, who needs em when the butchering is done well before hand, if ya cook it right, ya don't need a knife just a fork at that point!

Although I don't own any custom knives I agree.

Kind of hard to deal with a roast chicken using only a fork :) .

We also have quite a few kitchen knives that are very high quality and I use them to butcher the animals. To me, a knife is worthless if it can't hold an edge through heavy use and our kitchen knives get used quite heavily.

I can appreciate custom knives and their beauty but, for me, knives are more utilitarian and they need to be well made, balanced and able to hold that edge. While I could butcher everything with hunting knives the various types of kitchen knives are made to do different things more easily, such as quartering deer with a 6" chef's knife and then sectioning with a 6" utility knife and so on.

I love knives and have a lot of them but they aren't much to look at LOL :) .

Yeah Bruce I guess so...LOL!

I never really thought about it but I only have one kitchen knife and it doesn't really see much action....

Totally forgot about this thread. Wish I remembered where I saw this knife because I still really want to get it. Anyone have any new ones since posting on this thread last?
