I don't have any recent photos but most of this is still here in these photos. The Lan-C controller is different now. But the XA20, mics, tri-pod, tree arm, Small HD monitor, and other stuff is the same. Tons of other stuff not shown as well, including an array of GoPro stuff, Canon 7D, mics, and a drone too. I have mostly just made small tweaks to the set up the past couple of years.
Ryan, I just added a T3i to my camera bag also...was wondering how the deer react to the noise of the shutter when turning the camera on/off? This is a concern I have with trying my hand out with running the DSLR also this year.
On still/quiet hunts the shutter noise is quite annoying. I usually just try to leave it powered on the entire hunt. I recently just picked up a Panasonic TM700 that ill use as a wide angle instead of the t3i. Ill still use the t3i for b-roll but it won't be making the trip to the stand with me very often any more.
I think your best bet would be to leave it on during those times when you are most likely to encounter deer. You can buy after market batteries pretty cheap to keep it up and running. It should go into a standby mode that doesn't drain the batteries too badly. I haven't ran my DSLR much for video, but my old Canon XHA1s made quite a bit of noise on start up, turning on and starting up the tape drive device. I don't think I ever spooked a deer with it, but it sure did bother me.
Small HD makes incredible monitors. That is an AC7. I bought it when they first introduced that model line and got in on the pre-launch price specials. I do not use it a ton but when I do it is worth its weight in gold. I generally run it when I am doing DSLR work. It really helps with focus and framing. Any time I do a documentary type of project (I do many for my church), I use that monitor on a tri-pod or even mount it on top of the camera. In a hunting situation, if I am strictly the video guy then I will use it as well. But I almost never use it when self video work on a hunt. It is just too much bulk at that point for what I am trying to do. I also use it if I am trying to take long range still photos on a tri-pod as the larger screen lets me dial the manual focus in extremely precise.
Last year's g30. Switching Exclusively DSLR this year! Can't wait to get back up in the tree this fall!
Nothing fancy like yall got but a good set up for a college kid who just loves to hunt and film myself and buddies
I like the double main camera concept. I'm doing the same thing this year only with a GoPro set on Narrow field of view. It should look like an unzoomed camera. The other benefit I have with this setup is that I've got another GoPro mounted above me as the Hunter cam synced to the same remote that's right there above my LANC remote. The only thing not pictured is the Sennheiser wireless mic.
here is what I'll be running while I'm in the stand, I'll attach the light when tracking Sent from my LG-D500 using Tapatalk
I haven't really put it through it's paces yet, but my initial impressions are good for a cheap slider. Eventually I'll get a better one with a belt drive, but this will serve me well in the mean time.
Ordered my muddy arm today, along with the manfrotto head and varizoom.. I think those should be the last 2 pieces of the initial puzzle.
