From a total long term survival standpoint, which would you rather have:

your choice of bow and 24 arrows

    or

your choice of rifle and 100 bullets

    Gun and bullets.

Couple of downsides to each. After you shoot your 100 bullets, you are done. You aren't making new bullets in the woods. How long will the 24 arrows last? If you don't have any arrow building components, then I think your 24 arrows will last about as long as the 100 bullets, yet the gun and bullets are more deadly and have a greater range of accuracy. Also, your bowstring is not going to last long in the elements, and hardly anyone knows how to make a new bowstring in the woods. When you run out of arrows or your fletchings tear, what do you do? Nothing, the weapon becomes useless.

So for long term survival I would take the gun. You could kill animals and use their skin for important items such as blankets and clothing. After the guns use is up you could use the parts of the gun. You could sharpen the metal down and make knives, a spear, or several other small tools.

    I'll take the bow.

Once the bullets are used up, your done.

Arrows can be reused most of the time, if not....make more.

I can see positives and negatives with both honestly.

I would just feel more like a true "survivor" with the bow.

    Just my opinion.

rifle for sure, 100 bullets is more than enough to harvest some food as i made my way back to civilization. and if it was an island or something with no way to ever be rescued or find a way out.... still the rifle, harvest some food with it and you'd have plenty of time to make traps, bow and arrows, fishing tools and or spears.

Yes, you can make your own bow and arrows. With the sinews and gut from a gun kill. These can be used to make bowstrings. Also the gunpowder in bullets can be used to start a fire or even sterilize a wound. I wouldn't wait until i ran out of bullets to make a bow. Do it right away and use it for all your small game (you've got lot's of time!) Save the bullets for very important and larger game.

When I read the title, I thought for sure we were voting people off the island! ;)

Gun and bullets for me. I can build a bow later if I want.
