I never understood why people post in a thread to say they aren't getting involved in a thread. What?

I believe we should advance, evolve, move forward. At the same time there are good things that come from a strong foundation and old fashioned beliefs as well.

You are obviously a conservative contributer to faux news.

    http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/339010/20120509/reverend-peterson-sexist-sermon-fox-news-video.htm

Frequent Fox News guest Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson drew sharp criticism for arguing that women should not have the right to vote in a sermon that was posted on YouTube in March. The minister argued that women are destroying American society and wield too much political power.

Fox News host Sean Hannity has invited Peterson to speak on his show several times, even after the offensive sermon was posted online.

Even News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch, corporate master of Fox, disagreed with Peterson's sexist rant according to the Daily Mail. He tweeted in response, "When? Women voting is best thing in a hundred years."

"I think that one of the greatest mistakes America made was to allow women the opportunity to vote," Peterson said in the sermon.

Peterson even went so far as to associate woman in politics with evil.

"We should've never turned this over to women," he said. "It was a big mistake. ... And these women are voting in the wrong people. They're voting in people who are evil who agrees (sic) with them who're going to take us down this pathway of destruction."

"And this probably was the reason that they didn't allow women to vote when men were men," he continued. "Because men, in the good old days, understood the nature of the woman. They were not afraid to deal with it and they understood that if they let them take over, this is what would happen."

This is not Peterson's first controversial and offensive statement. He previously said "thank God for slavery" because it brought African people to the United States.

Peterson has also stated, "Barack Obama hates white people, especially white men." He argued that men should be legally permitted to hit their wives and expressed a desire to take "all black people back to the South and put them on the plantation so they would understand the ethic of working."

During his most recent offensive statement, the sermon titled "How most women are building a shameless society," he said women are incapable of making good decisions because they get too emotional.

"You walk up to them with an issue, they freak out right away," he said. "They go nuts. They get mad. They get upset, just like that. They have no patience because it's not in their nature. They don't have love."

Peterson appeared on Fox News last week after being invited again by Sean Hannity, and was confronted by Democratic commentator Kirsten Power, who called the sermon "misogynistic."

"I have a responsibility to tell the truth," replied Peterson. "You're on the side of lies. Why shouldn't I be on the side of truth? And it's the truth that's going to make us free. Somebody gotta tell the truth, so I'm going to tell the truth."

Peterson is the president and founder of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny, a group pushing a conservative agenda among African Americans where Hannity sits on the board, and its allied BOND Action Inc. In the past he has hosted a radio talk show and a cable TV program. He is well known for fighting against affirmative action and is a member of Choose Black American, a black group fighting illegal immigration.

Since the question was asked after you first asked to remove "God" from the marriage equation earlier. Removing God would be like going to an auto parts store and ordering a starter for your car without recognizing who the designer or manufacturer of the vehicle is. It would just make no sense. Yet people all over expect a marriage to succeed without considering the intended design.

God gave us a very clear design for marriage which very few people even recognize, let alone follow anymore. Sadly, any attempt to communicate that beautiful design gets met with anything from scoffing and ridicule to name calling and downright anger.

God's standard is one man, one woman joined together for life with no other sexual partners ever, before, during or after unless one of the partners has died. That's God's standard and at least as far as what the Bible teaches, any other sex act is not considered marriage but adultery or the Greek word "porneo" which is where the word fornication comes from. I know you didn't want a seminary lesson but the point is that while we as a society say "no" to same sex marriages because they are outside God's design, we have failed to accept that our hetero marriages seldom meet His plan either.

Your stretching here to connect the dots of bigotry. Look, I do NOT care what others choose to do. I just wish they would quit removing Christianity (the religion this country was FOUNDED on) from every aspect of our lives. It's an atheist family's right to not believe in God, but that isn't good enough often times....They had to have all prayers and mention of religion removed from schools as it offends them. I just don't understand how the Big Bang Theory can be taught to every youth in America as a possible scenario for creation, but the mention of God's creation of the universe is now blasphemy. Its a gay couples right to have a civil union by the court, but they have to fight for it to be termed even more and water down what was a religious institution.

I just have a problem with the direction marriage is going in general, both gay and straight....I guess that frustration spills over into this conversation.

I'm rambling at this point. I just wish we didn't trample on Christians in today's current society. Marriage was originally a Christian institute.... I wish those who aren't would at least respect that when they take part in it rather than mock it.

Do you realize that the topic of the thread is NC, where they banned civil unions of gay couples.

Only in the eyes of christians. Many cultures have different stories of its origin. What christians fail to realize is, other religions and beliefs exist. Its true. I looked it up.

    I laughed!

I actually have a "straight" cousin who married his step-sister here in Alabama. They weren't related technically of course but that is in Walker County Alabama where everyone is related.

I never once agreed with NC decision, despite my personal feelings on whether it is right or not....Gays should be allowed to partake in Civil Unions in America. It is their right.

It's splitting hairs but the term marriage is where the water muddied for me.

I bet the Peacock family only believed in marriage between man and woman.
