Because he owned his family, when he walked in the room he demanded respect and he got it. He dressed that way for pride in himself and his family. Most do it now for a fashion statement or to give themselves false confidence. He dressed that way for pride in his family, community and because he was one mean sob. It's was not about how he looked, but more about who he was as a man.
It has to go past September to cover all those tacky people that insist on wearing white after Labor Day. LOL Shorts should be Khaki, just above the knees and pleated for a good look on the golf course. I'm not a pro like NYbowhunter so it's OK for me to wear shorts. When I'm fly fishing in warm weather it's the camo cargo just so I look tacky.LOL
An enormous lesson from a couple Christmas' back. I had been speaking at a local church for the Christmas Eve service and afterward, my wife asked me to swing by Walmart, the only place open, to pick up a few last minute food items for our family meal the next morning. I had been wearing a suit and tie but had taken my jacket off. When I went to the register, the people in line absolutely refused to allow me to stand in line... they insisted that I move to the head of the line to purchase the few items. I didn't know them, but something was different than every other time I had been to Walmart in grunge. That was the only time I had ever dressed that way for a trip to Wally world.
Funny!!! Burt doesn't shop at Walmart though. I told my wife and her well to do family about it later and they basically said something to the effect of "That's what we have been trying to tell you!" "People treat you differently when you look confident and successful." Hooker is on to something here.
Haha, not in that way, geeze Better way would be he was the head of the family, but it was not a democracy.
Germ: Have you seen "To Kill A Mockingbird?" I remember how as Atticus Finch passed by, the black people in the courtroom stood in reverence. They even made Scout (his daughter) stand up saying "Scout... stand up... your father is passing by!" Is that what you had in mind concerning your G'Pa?
Damn. I need to stop reading this thread, I'm starting to realize I'm not a man. Jill and I are the head of our family and it is a democracy. Maybe I need to build a man cave and buy some Budweiser, just so I can keep my balls.
No he's Clint Eastwood in Grand Torino minus all the racial slurs. Dan different times, different era. I am pretty sure Jen and I are the head of out family, but she has veto power
I get what you are saying Germ. I know a couple guys like that. One older fellow I worked with, always dressed nice even going to job sites, not sure if he owned a pair of jeans. Another friend of mine's Dad seems to be that way also the few times I've met him.
Not only is your kid wearing jorts, but they are way too long! Does he have any friends? Are you wanting him to live in your basement after he quits school? Poor kid.
