Had an awesome sit last night. 6 does fed around me, had one of the two bigger ones out of the group at 20 yards. Back in the tree right now, hoping to see some antlers moving as this cold front comes in this afternoon.
Congrats minnesotahunter! Saw one 3.5yr 8 pointer yesterday at 6:15pm. I was hunting from the ground about 10 yards away from a scrape. He came from my left but never got closer than probably 60 yards. Never spooked just kept on his way up over a little ridge. Don't think that I would have shot him anyway since I am trying for 4.5 or older. The property I was hunting is public and I have seen a 5.5+ that I would love to shoot.
That is awesome minnesotahunter, how many tags do you guys get up there? Wibowhntr, that is just unheard of for public land around here. I hope you stick that 5.5 before the season ends.
Thanks guys. We only get one buck period. No cross tagging. We can shoot 5 does though. 2 is enough for me. Holding out for a wall mount now... Might take one more doe the last day of the season if I havnt shot a buck by then.
Congrats Minnesotahunter!!! Way to go. Let's keep it up. I am getting ready to sit for the first time this year on Saturday. I was drawn for one of the best plots of land to hunt in Kentucky. I am really looking forward to it!
Lots of life in tonight's sit. First a mink with what looked to be a mouse or mole in its mouth. Then a red fox down the same stream bed. Closed the sit out with a couple of does.
Congrats Minnesotahunter! It's the last day of VT early archery. I've only had a spike, a button buck and 2 doe on camera and haven't seen a deer in VT the entire month. One more try though. You never know. Oct 31 I'll be sitting in a tree in NJ again, hopefully the weather will be much cooler and it's the rut. Will hopefully put something down there and get on the board. I'm switching to a more remote stand site in NJ. HOPEFULLY a doe and a 100+ inch deer will walk by. Good luck everyone!
It is turning on here in CT. Yesterday I had a few does chased out of a bedding area by a mature buck. As of right now I do not have any pictures of this deer but it is bigger than anything else I have on camera. The buck came into about 90 yards and then U turned back into the cover. Man I was shaking like a leaf! Lots of scrapes popping up too.
Well. No luck from my first hunt of the year yesterday. It was really rainy and windy so the deer didn't move. Out of the 120 people selected for the hunt, only 3 deer were killed (2 doe and one button). I plan to hunt another public (archery only) location in Kentucky soon...possibly tomorrow. Hopefully I will have better luck.
Pulled the card from my camera which was about 30 yards from where I saw this buck last night. Turns out I captured a picture of him Tuesday AM. Super excited to get after him this week. Hope it is turning on by everyone else.
Doe down yesterday evening fellas! Brother and I had a fun hunt yesterday ending with a nice haul of venison but the real story is his dog. Her name is Belle, she's an 8 month old Catahoula (sp?). He's been training her on scent trails and early season we were also able to get a bunch of blood out of a doe kill to use. Just refrigerate it and pour some in a misting bottle then use to make a trail. Well yesterday was her first real test. We felt pretty good about the shots but we didn't trail either of these deer. We left them alone and went and got her. Long story short she found both deer in about 10 minutes total. So fun to watch her learn and work the trails. I'll get my doe pics posted to the scorecard in a bit.
Raining here is WI, but should be letting up in a couple hours. Plan on heading up to my lease shortly. If it continues to rain I will just be hunting out of my ground blind. Hopefully will put down a big WI buck on Halloween! Good luck guys bucks seem to be falling everywhere.
