Today I got the ridge beam finished I tied in the greenhouse frame to the beams. Then I put up the last perch 2x4 that ties the center ridge pole to the side of greenhouse. I added another side stablizing 2x4 as well. . When I went over the gust were seriuosly moving the greenhouse frame when I left just the cover moved some due to the ridge vents at both ends still being open. I'll be closing the west facing one over door when I remove the 12ft ladder. Too high winds in winter. One vent should handle humidity from birds.
There she be... Took forever but a great winter heaven for the birds a few little things to get done, nest boxes transferred over bigger water dish and couple of more feeders Oh hubby's putting in auto door for them to use fenced area, all wings clipped. Hubby squared and helped put in base 4x6 also front wall and door. I constructed and installed the actual green house top and all inside supports the wire security walls and the 4 layers of cover over walls. Oh and perches. Team effort.
I don't know about elaborate but well thought out, I hope that is...lol The roof "fencing" seems to be working great on snow load this last snow was a wet one. It's also easy to release snow from inside due to roof fencing . As with the ridge beams it is helping to not only avoid cover collapse but supports the arch poles. Arch poles are also supported by being secured to the perch supports. This is my last big build.
Oh everything except screws, nails and the actual greenhouse was scrap, repurposed and job site throw aways brought home. The greenhouse was a cheap Amazon 130.00 dollar sale 10x20. Frame is well supported as it has to be,the cover is a string reinforce plastic. Along as the end walls hold up I can always buy a clear tarp cover if UV doesn't hold well.
So getting the turkey in, turned into a ****e show. I did a night transfer of the 2 bronze. I go over bright and early to find not the turkey and chicken fighting but the bronze in mortal combat which got me bit as well. So I run over to clip and bring the other 2 hens over. So 3 hens and Tom was OK. That left me Blue, my 30 # dominate blue slate.. He goes in and immediately decides he needs to kill my laying hens. Out come the hammer, nails, 2x4,and 9 1/2 ft. of fencing.chickens infront for the auto door and turkey in back both with own food and waters and lower perches for wing clips. Lots of straw for tonight's temps.though being draft free, save the east facing end wall vent, .it's dang cozy in there. The sun adds heat along front and sides but the snow on very top helps insulate and retain some of it. also the snow against the sides.
