The dishwasher was stinking the other day, I planned on inspecting it to find out what the issue was. My wife suggested I stop on the way home and 3 packets of lemonade powder drink mix the kind you have to add sugar to. Well I added the powder and ran it thru a cycle. Opened the door and it was like new, all the scale from hard water and the odor was gone. That is my helpful tip of the day.

A very interesting tip. I have hard water (despite my softner) so it seems I run my dishwasher more often then needed because of the smell. What in the lemonade rid it of the smell?

Did you run it in the actual soap dispenser or just dump it in the bottom?

Maybe if you tried different dishwasher detergents. I've never had a smell problem like that. My husband says the detergent ate the original garbage disposal. (That was before I moved in.) He's thinking this one is about to start leaking.

I just put the lemonade powder in the same place as the soap, it smelled like lemonade when it was over. I have well water so I get the hard water deposites, I have used iron out in the past but the lemonade works much better.
