I find if ironic that when the person of question admits he "wishes he did more" there are still people that are saying that he did enough, Pathetic.
Sorry, even DA's in the area are saying Joe did exactly what he should have. I'm going to respectfully bow out of this thread. I know I'm very close to the issue and am big supporter and fan of Paterno. I also know that once this trial begins and more light is shed on the issue, we will all find out what was actually done and by whom. I'm pretty certain that once this happens, many of the Paterno naysayers will retract statements. Trust me, what the media as been feeding everyone... if you had any idea of what has been going on locally here, you'd be shocked. This isn't over by a long shot. Sandusky will get his due and I believe many of the BOT will end up on the streets when its all said and done. There is A LOT more than whats being publicized. This is what frustrates me most when I see all the negative comments about Paterno. If you had any idea......
I think theres a lot of speculation going on about the whole situation. Not just on here but in general, to the extent that people are now talking about a mans loss of life as judgment. Noone except those involved know the truth about the whole situation. My honest opinion of paterno not related to the 'scandal' is that he coached too long, and i was never a fan of him or PSU. I understand that he was a figure head, and im a huge college football fan. Im sure that some of you have teams that you dont care for...the sad part eventhough i didnt care for him much and would say this about anyone.....i hate he didnt get to enjoy his retirement, do lame espn analysis or whatever he had planned.
Have you paid attention to this at all, or did you just hear 5 seconds of it on the radio? He said he wishes he could have done more, knowing what he did after this all came out. This is where you say there is no way he didn't know. There I just saved you the trouble. My previous post is not speculation, its what people involved in this have admitted. I know its more fun to hear little pieces and start throwing stones. Its the more popular method in our society.
I would say he coached football for his retirement. Exactly what he wanted to do. I doubt if he was the type of guy that would ever really retire.
Last post on this subject and then I'm done. Our law provides that he is INNOCENT until proven guilty. From what I've read, he did what he should have done knowing what he knew. If Sandusky is found guilty, then throw your rage and anger towards him and the sorry excuse for a man that let it go on - McQuerry. And personally, I dislike PSU now and disliked them even before they became part of the Big 10. No matter how much I don't care for them, Paterno was a great coach.
I honestly don't care what he did on the football field. There are countless stories that detail what a wonderful man Joe was, off the field, right up until his death. One of my pro staffs is not happy about the stance I've taken in this thread.
If someone is going to great lengths to bad mouth Paterno and blame him for basically everything with out all of the facts, do you really believe they will come back on here and retract their statements? I definetly do not believe this to be true. They will continue to blame him no matter the situation or not have the decency to admit they were wrong.
I will gladly retract my statements if it's proven he didn't know anything ... we shall see ... or maybe we won't ever know the truth ...
Tony I believe you would. I just dont think that every one would do that. This story is very sad and I am looking forward tofinding out exactly what happened and who knew what. If it turns out that Paterno knew every thing then I think he can not get enough crap. But with what we have herd and the story changing constantly I need more details before I bad mouth some one who has done alot for alot of people.
So he's guilty until proven innocent? Its best to throw rocks first? I understand the magnitude of the crimes are going to invoke strong emotions. Still, I don't believe in jumping to conclusions.
I would also like all the "look at what he has done for all these people" BS to stop until all the facts are out ... because like I said before, if it turns out he mostly ignored what happened and did not do ALL he could on his end .... then his previous "good" deeds are nothing but crap ....
Thats really been my point this whole time. I really do understand how the nature of these crimes gets people fired up. Child sex abuse is a heinous act. Its easy to want to burn people at the stake without all the facts. Sometimes we need to step back, and take emotion out of it. Now think if you were unrightfully blamed for enabling such crimes to happen? Think about how your family would feel as well? Thats Joe's family right now. Not only are they mourning the loss of a husband, father, grandfather, but they also have to hear his name dragged through the mud. Not really fair, is it? If we learn Joe did know more, enough that he should have taken increased action, then I will join the lynch mob with my pitch fork and torch. But we are knocking on Sandusky's door first.
