Im trying to teach my kid to shoot a bow and have a question. He is left handed but right eye dominant. He has been shooting a right handed bow (the two times we have gone shooting). Should I keep him on that or buy him a lefty? He seems to do ok with the right handed bow.

    thanks

Most coaches will teach shooting with the dominant eye.

If he is shooting well with his right eye I would keep it that way. I am a bit of an anomaly, I appear to be center dominant so I am in the process of training myself to shoot with both eyes open but my left eye sometimes tries to take over. It is strange, depending on the eye test or distance I get different results for which eye is dominant.

Keep him shooting right handed. Not only should you go with eye dominance but there are so many more choices for right-handed archers. Take this from some one who is mostly right handed but shoots lefty because of left-eye dominance.

OK I may get blasted for this, but I'm left eye dominant and right handed. I switched back to a RH bow this past spring because they are easier to find and sell. But i'm truly confident in shooting either way. (Gun the same)

I agree, keep him shooting right handed. I am right handed, but left eye dominant, but I still shoot right handed. I have to shoot with one eye open, and it just makes things difficult sometimes.

I'm new to bowhunting. I'm left handed, and right eye dominant. Been gun hunting many years left handed, and have tried to change to my dominant side, but just couldn't do it. When I first started with a bow, I tried a right handed bow, as there aren't many lefties on a rack to shoot. It felt awkward at first, but after a couple of days practicing. It now feels awkward to pick up a left handed bow.
I'd bet that your left handed son, thats shooting right handed would now feel awkward with a left handed bow. That was my experience. I'm gonna stay RH now.

I'm a new shooter thats cross eyed dominant (right handed, left dominant eye). I ended up purchasing a left-handed bow and I have to admit it does feel rather awkward right now, I'm hoping that given enough time and practice I will get used to it.

I am left handed right eye dominant. I shoot either hand well. I prefer left handed shooting with both eyes open.

Eye dominance can be frustrating, at least for me. As I said earlier both of my eyes fight for dominance. That said Ive grown up shooting shotguns right handed my whole life so I am pretty much willing to do whatever it takes to keep shooting right handed haha

I am another right-handed/Left eye dominant guy. I just started with a left-handed bow and it feels fine to me. I tried a right-handed bow, but closing one eye really bothered me.

I shoot rifles either way with a scope, but lefty with iron sights.
