I got my son a Bear Scout - starter bow. He's been shooting a recurve, but the draw weight was too much for his 7 year old arms and his form was really bad, so I got him this one due to the light draw weight so we can work on form and repetition. We also just found out he is left eye dominant, but right handed... (I think the right handed thing is my fault, we keep steering him to using the right hand, and it has become dominant) When he took up the bow this morning, he grabbed for it left handed. He also draws it better left handed. He shoots with both eyes open, so I need to set it up for left hand draw, he closes the right eye to shoot...this is blowing my right hand mind. SO I switched the bow string around to left hand, and that is as far as the instructions go. For whatever reason, I am having a REALLY hard time envisioning which side the pin for the sight should go, and where the arrow rest should be. Is it just opposite of a right hand draw? I know this is really stupid, but couldn't find much with google. Merry Christmas!
Yep, mirror image of a righty bow. I know it can be confusing because I teach kids archery and I'm lefty... they're usually righties and as long as I've been doing this.. it still confuses me. Not all righty rests/sights will work in a lefty configuration. You're doing the right thing by having him shoot left-handed tho'. If you want, I can send you pictures of my bow. Good luck!
I think we are going to have to hash up a rest, the rest appears to only work with a right hand setup. I will make it work somehow - freezing rain today or I would have him on the lawn right now. Its a really simple bow, but I think it will be good to establish the basics for him.
