Ive been getting some good signs/pictures of this bear walking the ridge I'm hunting. He's leaving signs - poop, prints, everything. I got some trail cam pics of him and I think I've dug myself into a hole. My buddy told me not to come back to that ridge every day to check the camera, because leaving too much of my scent could scare him away. Well I have been too anxious and Ive been coming back everyday. I came back 3 back to back days and this morning when I checked I didnt see any signs of the bear coming around that ridge. Could he be taking a day or two break from walking that ridge or could our scent have scared him away? Maybe even the flash from the camera scared him away? My wife has the under armour ridge reaper scent suit. I don't have a scent suit but I spray down with that Scent-A-Way stuff. I read that scent-a-way doesn't kill odor, it just prevents new odor. I think I might buy the deodorant, detergent and soap to go in addition.
agree with your buddy...no need to check it day by day when you know it's coming through....i leave my cameras alone for a week before i even go look at it, sometimes even longer....i've never hunted bears before so i dunno either...as for scent, it's a hit or miss...imo; you can have the best of the best and you will still smell...best way is to keep all your stuff odor-free & store it properly....if you're on a budget, you can also buy base layers that have scent control.....but if you think way back in the days, people have been hunting successfully without all the scent technology stuff...
Let your camera sit longer...I don't hunt bear either so I'm not sure how they react to human scent compared to deer but I have a camera out for deer and I check it every two weeks.
