I shot a small buck tonight and I hope to have my hands on him within 18 hours; I shot him at 6 and hope to be able to get him by noon. The low tonight is 40 and the high tomorrow is 60; the meat should still be fine, correct?
Was there blood on the ground? Good idea not to push. Do you shoot with both eyes open? That will help with viewing the shot and deer together. Goodluck
Good luck, always a rough night but you're doing the right thing. Was it at full alert when you took the shot?
Good decision. It's nice to see a new bowhunter think through it and make the right choice. Could have been one or "those other threads". Best of luck today.
Thanks all, but what do you think about the meat? Is it edible if he was laying 18 hours; it was 40 last night and the high is 60 today?
I think it will be just fine, 40's should have cooled it down enough. I'd first worry about finding it, there are ways to tell it the meat is useable later.
The meat will be fine. The coyote's or foxes may have have a nip, but cut around that and you will be fine. Sal
Like said before, I'm glad this isn't one of those "other threads". Way to be alert and the meat will be ok. Refridgerators are about 30 - 40 degrees to make your mind at ease.
