Do you guys use these for hunting purposes, or just during practice? I was thinking of making my own, but I do not think I would use it for hunting. Why? Because I do not think you can ever kill the smell of leather. Any feedback on this?

    Thanks,

    Bobby

I use the same one the entire last year during the summer and for hunting and had no problems! I with Jeff, if they smell my guard there going to smell me as well or they will be on their death run! You ever wear rubber boots, the scent free kind, I can smell those easier than my leather guard! Never had a problem with either!

That's cool if you guys use one. I was just curious if you use it for hunting. I will likely not use one.

Jeff, if you are gonna hunt the wind exclusively, why spray down? If the deer are upwind, you could probably get away with pretty much any smell. jmho And I do agree, if they smell your armguard, they are definately close enough to smell you. I hunt the wind the best I can, but, it will not always co-operate.

Joe, if you leave the rubber boots out year round and spray them with doe pee, they won't smell like rubber anymore. I had that issue with the rubber smell and overcame it.:deer:

I use one to practice. I will only use one, while hunting when I wear thick jackets or baggy sleeves, to hold them down. Other than that, I usually dont wear on hunting.

Nope, never watched an Olympic archer. My bow arm Is slightly bent the other way. I don't believe It's bad form shooting like that but I guess I could be wrong. It's how I was taught as a youngster from my dad many years ago. Why would It be bad form? Interesting stuff here.

I guess I should also mention, the one I use in the field is not leather.

WTH Jeff? I just asked a question. Sorry I hurt your feelings. I understand perfectly what you say you do. I just asked what you used to do it with. No wrong answer. Actually, you are the only one with the answer though.

By the way, the reason I do not vary entrance, exit routes is only to hunt the same stand/small area. I only have about 30 huntable acres and few entrance exit routes because of hunting clubs surrounding me. If you can come up with better tactics for hunting "my land", please elaborate.

I was not trying to play. (But if I was, at least everyone else here has a sense of humor and are willing to "play nice".

    Jeff.
I shoot both recurves and longbow, I don't understand your reference to "not shooting a longbow".

Also I have a friend that shoots a Widow and a Hoyt compound and never wears an arm guard. He has a 3D range on his property and he is scary accurate with his Widow to 40 yards we won't even talk about the compound.

Form doesn't mean just the classic stance and alignment. Form is doing what works best for you and being able to do it each time and time again. Most Olympic archers anchor under their chin and put their thumb behind their head/neck, you don't see that in bowhunting. Would that mean we have a form flaw? I don't think so because we have trained ourselves to do the same thing over and over again, it's the same thing with arm slap.

Oh, I do use a leather arm guard while hunting and practice.

Well Jeff, maybe It Isn't perfect form and I'm going about It wrong but It's worked for me the last 14 years. Shooting traditional bows Is sometimes a style of your own. Most all do something a little different then the next being It works best for them.

I use a leather armguard, make my own.. I don't hit my arm alot but I just never wanted to take the chance when hunting. Seems like bulky clothing can be unpredictable about getting in the way.
