Maybe someone here has already done this and can help me out !

I am rebuilding a small utility trailer and need to reuse the leaf springs on the new frame. To get the springs off, I had to cut off the head and the nut sides of the bolts that go thru the eye of the leaf springs. Now the bushing and the remainder of the bolt that holds the spring to the brackets is still in the spring and that sucker doesn't want to budge. Any ideas on how to get that portion of the bolt out of the leaf spring eye ??? I have pounded on it until I am blue in the face, and they are still in there tight !!! I have also poured bolt buster penetrant on it and it doesn't seem to help.

Couldnt have said it any better myself. I had the same scenario happen to me, the torch solved the problem though.

What is stuck? You need to heat the right part. Metal expands, if you are heating the bolt and not the housing you are going backwards.

Good point. Heating the bushing will cause it to drop right out in most situations. However, you can also try finding a socket that is just slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the housing, and trying tapping it out (applying a little heat would help as well).

Yep, what Tee Jay said. try putting your bolt buster in a container and letting the eye let soak in it for a day. use a never seize compound on your ney bolts so it does not happen again.

Thanks guys. Someone told me to try to drill them out, I tried , and it worked nicely, took maybe 30 minutes to get both out !!! Now I can put in new bushings and bolts and I'm good for another 20 years !!!!
