These are from Gogebic Co.(W 1/2) mostly and some other posts/pics from Ontonagon Co.(N&W 1/3)...but do spend some time up in the Keweenaw Pen. and Baraga Co. as well as Iron and Vilas Counties in Wisconsin.

I'm sure you need a tag, but those wolves are now open season right? I believe Michigan passed wolf hunting this year.
Unless you enjoy the beauty of them. There not very welcome by us.

Tags go on sale in August I believe...over the counter(no lottery) till the limited number are sold. This barring a court order to suspend the hunt(which some groups are pushing for). The fact is that many wolves are being shot in the U.P. and WI both without tags so the state may as well be making money off of them. I think they have their place but there are a lot here and they have decimated the deer herd in many areas. My camp was in one of those areas but the deer have learned to deal with the wolves and are much harder to hunt now. Perhaps it is a more balanced herd for the ecosystem but the numbers are 1/4(if that) of what they were 10 years ago. Of course we had a pack of 17 wolves there 5-6 yrs ago which ended up splitting and then some guy shot a few(they haven't nailed him yet though they have searched his properties a couple times they have no proof). I personally like having some around but not the numbers and problems(or potential - they come right into town) we currently have to deal with and their lack of fear needs to be remedied. I will be in line first thing on the morning those tags go on sale...pelts are worth a good chunk of change so a 100$ tag will be worth it - I have no doubt I will harvest one easy enough.

Yup - our wolves average 80lbs but I have seen 3 over the 120 mark and 1 that was easy 150. The DNR confirmed one killed by a car a couple months ago at 130lbs and that bugger was a big animal for sure.
