I'm going out to Hancock county IL for one more hunt this week and was looking for some input. It is going to be cold as hell, our property doesn't have any food plots on it but I believe the neighbors have some beans up and another one had a clover plot. Should I bother with my rattling antlers, grunting and doe bleating?

I wouldnt bother with any calling this time of year. I would find bedding and pinch points. Im sure you know the property, so I would suggest setting up on those heavy travel areas. Obviously look for big trails. Without food its a little bit tougher to see numbers. I would guess the morning hunts will be slightly more productive. But those are just my thoughts. Dress warm and sit tight. Good luck.

Food and bedding are the points to focus on this time of the year.

Travel routes sound like your only option now. Good luck and stay warm.

get close to thick stuff if you don't have feed. might catch a buck staging before making his way to feed. hunt the south facing slopes where deer may be looking for warmth if possible.

If it's legal to put a corn pile out do it. Dump 2 bags out and hunt over it on the third and fourth day. If not legal or you have some moral objection look for any other food source available like acorns or a cover crop.

Thanks. I think there are a few stands on good spots. Might put a pop up or two on the field. Farmer put some winter wheat and other cover crops down in October. Hopefully I can get something for the freezer

Deer are moving at night from what I am picking up on the cameras. Was run a bunch during the shot gun season so are real spooky now. Was looking for new place today and saw one deer's flag 1/3 ,mile away. Only deer seen in the last 2 weeks. Hoping to catch them between bedding area and water.

Do not trying grunting or bleats! I had a nice little buck that I am trying to cull come across the pasture I hunt Sunday and I grunted at him, I could almost hear him laughing as he went into the woods. Pinch points, staging areas and luck if you have no food sources.

If you got it, let the snow tell you where they are moving.
