Was just curious what others think and do. Is it too late in the season to still be hunting scrapes? I know deer use scrapes year round, but in the past week or so I have not had that much activity at some of my sets over scrapes. Is it also too late to use some estrus scent in them? Thanks guys, much appreciated!
I wouldn't use estrous but I do continue to add buck urine to them and I have had late season success doing this. I have found big mature does get spooky late season when estrous is present.
As the rut creeps to an end and the bucks start to tighten their core area around the food sources, they probably won't go out of their way to check scrapes. However, I have seen numerous deer work scrapes in and around their main food source. This time of year, I would start moving your stands to the food sources and the travel areas leading to them.
Makes sense just figured the does that didn't come into estrus yet are now as well as younger and yearling does. Think your right though, I'll continue to use buck urine for my scrapes. Maybe just set up some tinks scent bombs near with doe in heat scent if anything.
