Johnny and I headed up to my cabin today to put a doe down on film and had no trouble doing so.....almost. 20 minutes into the hunt this doe presented me with the perfect quartering away shot at 16 yards and I, sorta, botched it. I changed my anchor point a bit because my release elbow was hitting a branch and in the process I tucked my sting a little closer to my body than normal. When I released, my string caught the chest pocket of my jacket and jacked up the shot, causing me to hit her back quite a bit. From the angle I thought I may have caught liver. We let her lay 6 hours and then tracked her 120 yards to and found her dead in her bed. When I dressed her it was apparent that I keyholed her liver. Here she is.....late season doe #2 in 3 days. Man I wish I had more doe tags!
Matt, I wouldn't call it a huge accomplishment, since I was only looking to take out a couple does from the property and it was a pretty easy hunt. See, it was crazy wet at our cabin this year and we couldn't get the food plots in because the clay held too much water. We decided we needed to take a couple does out since no one shot any this year there and we were baiting with corn. In WI you're allowed to use 2 gallons per 40 acres and with as much snow as we have, they are hitting it hard. Now the tough late season hunt begins. We have until Jan 9th to figure out how and where to kill 2 of the big boys still out there.
Dan I tried to text you congrats from the stand today but it wouldnt send Congrats on another fine Doe! Hey just curious, have you guys seen Brasky this season?
Congrats Dan! I have a gaping space in the freezer and I can't for the life of me fill it with another doe much less a buck. ...sigh...
