I'm in Kentucky I tried doing some grunting and used a doe bleat all it done spooked the buck that I was trying to get him out of the thick brush.
Don't call at all, late season is about putting weight back on and healing from injuries during the rut. Hunt thick brush between bedding and feeding areas. As for should you be doing it, that's up to you. I hunt all season long and I've had decent sucess, I can actually say I've had better results in the late season than during the rut.
Early season I only call if I absolutely have to.Like if a buck is out of range and I know I wont get a shot, even then I don't usually call much. The only time I use calls is when the bucks start to get into the rut.
Starting December I stop doing any calling I just try and hunt an active feeding area and hope for the best!! I will use a little bit of doe urine just as a cover scent!
Ive read that using a doe bleat may bring in those still looking to mate. However I don't usually call except during the rut.
We can't as the deer are so shell shocked from 14 weeks of relentless hunting that they stringjump a squirrel fart 2 40's over.
Under certain circumstances I will. To get a bucks attention from a long distance I will try just about anything anytime of the year! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
