What is the latest you have killed a good buck? Give us a few details about the where and how you got it done and his score. It's a tuff task but there are a few good bucks taken every year.

I killed my highest scoring buck to date with any weapon on January 2nd 2000 in MO. He is a 6x5 with no stickers gross scoring 165 and netting 155. He was pretty run down and skinny and his neck had lost it's swell but he still field dressed 206 pounds.

I was setup on a small dry creek crosssing in the morning between a picked corn field and a weedy, brushy ditch that led out into an abandoned pasture. I knew deer liked to bed in this ditch. He actually came walking up the creek towards my stand and bedded down 30 yards from me. However I had no shot because there was a branch between us. I'm glad I never had a chance to stand up when I saw him, because he layed there for a little over an hour. When he stood up he fed on a few ferns growing on the creek bank and made his way to the trail 15 yards to my left. He took the trail and offered me a 15 yard broadside shot, which I took while still sitting. He took off like a bulldozer through the woods and crashed 75 yards later.

I think I had seen this buck cross the road chasing a doe Thanksgiving weekend. I had a trail camera out all season on this farm and never got a picture of him.

So I don't need any pep talks to keep me out there right till the end. I know it can happen any time.

No John, I wouldn't expect that you would lack motivation with that exceptional buck being a big reason why! What a fantastic animal!

I shot a big bodied buck the first week of January a few years ago. Thought it was a doe, it had already dropped its horns. That sucked

It's not easy, but I've seen a few good bucks go down in late season here in PA. Most notably, my dad's 9 point ML about 8 yrs ago.

Nice buck, btw, John. Nice mustache:D

    That is an awesome mustache!

I've had some close encounters with really nice bucks in December but I can't kill 'em.

Never for me. In 24 years of bow hunting I think/maybe I've saw one mature buck In December. Some of those years though I was already tagged out but none the less I have trouble hunting mature bucks this time of year where I live. My brother on the other hand killed his biggest buck In December, his scored 139" net. It was -27 below zero on December 24th In 1998.

Dec. 10. I caught this buck the day before sneaking through the woods at 12:00 coming out of my stand. I had another stand on the trail he was following. I sat up on it the next day and he came through at 9:45. I put 2 arrows in him and he disappeared into some tall johnson grass. Searched for over 2 hours and finally found him. Old deer, only 7 pts. but he had great mass and tine length. Scores around 120.

I have killed bucks on Dec 3,7,25 and 28. I try to get between bedding and feeding. The closer to the bedding the better. No bait.

    Never done it.

I've actually only had December 2 hunts where I saw a buck I would take, and one was Dec. 1 of this year.

These 2 were both taken the first week of December....I killed them during our 2nd. shotgun season on public land.

This one was actually tending a hot doe, seen this deer 3 times from a distance over the 4 day weekend and I killed him on Sunday. His one ear was almost torn off from fighting and his rack was busted up too. Never scored him but he was a 3.5 yr. old.

I shot this guy at 1:30 in the afternoon. It was in the big woods. I was hunting a saddle that had a lot of tracks in the new snow. He was out looking for a doe. His body was showing some wear from the rut. I think he goes about 135. He's a 3.5yr. old with a 21" inside spread.
