Greywolf woolens. It will last a lifetime if you take care of it.

First lite, a good merino wool layering setup is tough to beat.

For late season, its hard to beat Sitka. First lite's sanctuary jacket is also a great piece of gear. Pricey, but worth every dime!

First nothing cotton should be touching your body. Cotton holds moisture and can cause you more harm than good. Use a thin base layer that wicks moister away like polyester or merino wool. Next use an insulating layer of merino wool or fleece and last layer should be water repealing and wind blocking but breathable. for an insulating layer I got a merino wool sweater on eBay for less than $20. The Nomad or Browning Hells Canyon lines with primaloft is pretty decent for the price.

I picked up some Jeerzee brand long sleeved T's. 50/50 poly/cotton. Have wore the short sleeve version and they are warm. Going to do some hunting for the wool layer to go over them. Night have to change from cotton underwear all together though. The older I get the quicker I get cold and the longer it takes to thaw out again.

Whatever outer layer you end up with, start with merino wool. There's nothing like it. I personally own some minus 33 expedition weight items and they are the best base layers I've ever used. If you layer up with some merino wool and a poly layer, it should enable you to go a little less on the outer wear. Sitka and First Lite are great but pricey. With good base layers you can get by with a good Cabelas outer garment like Wooltimate, 10 point, or Silent Suede.

Cabelas stand hunter suit. I wear it over my lightest base layer and that's it. If you have to walk at all zip the legs and upper part down. If you wear more than just a base layer you will overheat even unzipped. Anytime the temps drop in the teens I wear it.

I'll echo what TKP030 and Jim said above, but I'll omit brand names and say that merino wool layers are practically unbeatable unless they get wet, and unlike anything else our fabulous technology has produced, even when wool gets wet it still has the ability to keep you somewhat warm. Don't get it wet, though, because wool is very difficult to get dry without a clothes dryer. Wool is naturally odor absorbent also. It's just tough to beat.

Brands mean nothing. Material is everything. Wool is king.

I use Under Armour base layer then regular camo pants & shirt walking to my stand. Then after getting setup I have a wool sweater and Cabelas outer wear. Fortunately Virginia doesn't get super cold.

If you like Scent Lok, their Covert Deluxe with the right layers is a great option. A heavy Merino base, Primaloft mid layer, and the Covert Deluxe on top will take you well below zero comfortably.

A lot of great info written above. I use Sitka gear. For late season I turn to the fanatic series. People mention they are a little bulky, but it's give or take type thinking. You want warmth, you need insulation. Another option that I don't think was mentioned was the heater body suit. :tu:

Lots of good suggestions, but the thing to remember is layers, regardless of what brand you're using.

For the past two years i have been absolutely swamped with the hype surrounding Sitka gear. And this year i finally broke down and spent the astronomical price for a fanatic jacket, and man, the hype is real! The windstopper lining proves vital in the low temps. It is 100% windproof and is incredibly warm. I will always suggest sitka now for outer layers when speaking in regards to warmth. It also has a built in handwarmer muff that is hard to beat. Ill admit though, it does have a fluffly fpeece outer lining that is an absolute burr MAGNET, which can be annoying, but i find backpacking it in and out solves that. I agree with most others on baselayer. Cant beat merino wool against the skin then a nice heavyweight baselayer above that. A great combo. Just got that advice this year myself!

Cabelas wooltimate. Light, quiet, warm and wind proof. And best of all affordable.

I have the sanctuary jacket. I use it for late season deer and duck hunting and it hasn’t let me down in 3 seasons.
