Friday night found me in a tree with my heart pounding out of my chest. In the darkness I could make out a silhouette directly under my tree. It wasn't a buck but my bow which had fallen 20 feet and crashed into the ground below. I watched it fall in slow motion and I am sure every deer in the county heard me yell like Ralphy in "A Christmas Story". "OOOOOOOOHHHH FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUDDDDDGGGGEEEEE" When I got home I texted Rob "I dropped my bow, I think its broke". One minute later I got his response "Do you want to come up". I dropped my bow off at Rob's for him to inspect and luckily nothing was broken. Due to cheerleading, family, halloween obligations I was busy all weekend and could not pick up my bow until late Sunday evening. That night I lite up my target and shot a dozen arrows, everything looked good. 5:45 am on Monday I was in my stand. The leaves were "crunchy" and everything just felt "right". At 7:30 I heard deer coming from my left. I stood up, clipped on my release and got ready as they came into view. The first deer was a yearling doe. I watched as she licked a stump and moved from left to right. I could hear a second deer behind her, so I waited to see if she might have a buck with her. Thats when I notice my heart is thumping, my legs are tight and my throat is dry. The second deer comes into view. Another yearling doe. I still had my doe tag, the other property I hunt has a lot of big bucks, and my admiral was still a virgin, so I decided to take her. I watched both does for a chance to draw. I SLOWLY drew back. Found my anchor point and squeezed the release, but just as I did she took a step towards me I heared the arrow hit her as both does ran off. They stopped 50 yards searching for the source of the noise. Did I miss? Did I wound her? Crap I suck! Then the doe I shot at topples over and I knew I had her. When I was walking up to the doe I heard something run off and glanced down the hill to see a large coyote heading for the hills. He must have smelled the doe and was looking for a snack. She was at 25 yards. I hit her low and back when she took her step. This is only my 2nd bow kill. Bow hunting is TOUGH but I love it! I want to say thanks to this forum and it's special members like Rob who has helped me out so much this year. I have learned so much, if I don't get a buck this year, my season is already a success. sidenote: Not much of a hero shot, more like a sidekick shot lol, but had to get the wifes camera, the kids, go to work, bla bla bla.
