I knew I was taking a chance but went ahead and planted an acre of clover in the middle of June. It is starting to come in pretty well. My question is what can I plant over it in the beginning part of August that doesn't require much soil prep? I have an area close to it that I was going to use buck forage oats in and thought about planting it in with the clover as well...will this work or do I needed to go with something else? All options are open.
    Thanks

Any small annual cereal grain will work and brassicas will also.

Grains typically should be planted around 1/2" deep, so overseeding them works but not as well as these other options...radish, Winfred brassica, dwarf Essex rape, forage rape, berseem clover and crimson clover.

Planted 1/2" deep is not much soil prep. Maybe I misunderstood but I didn't take it as a no-till intended use. Wheat will work fine spread 20% over rate, it'll grow on gravel. Early part of august is probably too early for the clovers...depending on where you are. Here in KS/MO...I wouldn't put that down until Sept 1st at the earliest but I would intend for it to overwinter too. Just for an attractant in a kill plot early archery it would be fine. Too early and it'll head out and frost kill.
