Thanks again everyone! No, not really. Getting the right consistancy in the mortar helps, as well as scraping out a little from the center, creating a "suction cup" like effect. A few of the heavier pieces I had to hold in place for 30 seconds or so.
Nice work, Fitz! Brings back memories of building our fireplace. I was actually going to ask you if you notched the wall/logs to accept the studs? It's hard to tell because it's a GIF!:D
I try and avoid cutting into any of the logs around here. If for some reason the stone needs to come out, I haven't ruined the wall.
Figured I'd give an update. My last stove pipe sections came while I was in WI for the rifle season. So this AM I finished the install and fired the ol' girl up for the first time in years! With 8-9" of snow on the ground, it's sure nice to have a fire going in side while listening to Christmas music Time to unpack the decorations!
