Last weekend I took a nice little jont across a big chunk of Texas on my bike. I had to run to Seminole Texas on Wed.. Thur. morning, I left Seminole and took the back roads through Lubbock,Gale,Snyder, up to Post, over to Jayton (to check on my land), through Swenson, Aspermont, Rule, Stanford, Albany, Breckenridge, Mineral Wells, Cool, Milsap, then over to Brock to a buddies land. I spent the weekend drinking beer and a little fishing. More so, just to camp and relax. Once I arived, I found where I wanted to camp, except a cottonmouth wanted to camp there too. Which was a welcome surprise. This cottonmouth was the lightest colored cottommouth ive ever seen. It will look great on the back of a bow.

Here where I landed after about 400 miles of rideing

And here is the new bow backing. I wish I had Steve take a picture of its back. It was a great looking skin. I messed up when I killed him. I stepped on his head and cut behind my boot. I ended up stepping too far along his neck and wasted about 6" of the best skin. It went with his head. Oh well.

You seem to attract snakes wasn't only last fall you had a couple of rattlers join you in a make shift blind?

But your right he is gonna look real good on the back of a bow.

Dave Kent doesn't have to club snakes...he just tilts the old dome over a bit and the glare burns them in two!:hail: All that riding and you didn't come see me,Seminole is 1 hour away and you didn't visit me! I was there last weekend for a Iron Man shoot at the golf course...I sucked but had fun!Strap a long bow on and come down to one of our shoots Kent, think we're gonna have a Iron Man event...25-30 targets shot 3 passes in one day ranging 15-45 yards!Bring the bike..I'll stretch it's legs...I'll treat it like I do the drag bike...rev it up and let it fly!:d

Yep, it is green down here in Texas. It is usually much greener in Brock, but we have been in a drought.

Russ, Yep, I do seem to attract the snakes. I did have three find me while hunting last season.

Sorry, I landed in Seminole late at night. I left early in the morning. I just ran through to help a buddy with some problems. I do plan on getting down your way. I just got to find the time. Im about to be moving three different houses, and building a new shop. Ill also have to tune some arrows to a bow. I have not shot a bow since Dec.. I do not have a bow that has arrows tuned to it right now. I guess Ill do that, once i get this last bow built. It will be my last for a while. My next bows are going to be one for you and one for Russ. That is, once the woods cures out.

Oh, about the snake. I just stepped on his head and cut it off. I use my sexy head to mesmerize them, then I go in for the strike.

Hey Kent, when you back a bow with snake skin, do you just glue it on or is there a process that really makes it stick well and look good too???

It depends. Most of the time, you can just glue it on with hide glue, or other glues. Ived even glued them on selfbows with knox gelatin. That is, once the skin is fleshed and descaled. Just resoften it, spread the glue, and stretch the skin on the back. It usually will only go on organic substances, like wood, linen, silk, rawhide, sinue, etc. Ive never seen a glass bow backed with a natural skin. How ever, ive seen glass lam bows backed with fake snake skins.

Hey Kent I can keep my eyes open for more hides if you need some...I have bumped off 4 rattlers this year just they weren't very big.Since the archery range is in a pit there's good chances of finding more!I can skin and freeze them and get with you if you need them.I'm going the stir Bob up and make him come down to a shoot and bring the troll with him.Don't worry about the bow get your honey do's taken care of first...if momma ain't happy nobodies happy!:d

I plan to do just that. When Bob and Russ come down, let me know. As for the skins. Ill take all you can get. You can either salt them, borax them, or freeze them. Freezing would probably be the easiest.
