Serious or sarcastic? I've been on a lot of teams over the years... We currently have the most post (save for the winners from last year) and the second most views. Seems pretty "chatty" to me.
That might have happened last year... I looked at that and said - stop just stop. Guy was pretty confident he had a good score on that buck. Yesh.
Last year I pointed out a lot of mistakes. It's kinda scary how many people don't know how to score a rack. Especially when all the info is right on line. It's also posted on this site somewhere as well.
Lull in the action. I'll get some pics later but we are knocking some doves down. Hot. Welcome on board KT. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Jon - congrats on the new permission! That is a great feeling - never hesitate on asking permission man. All they can say is know - if you are thoughtful about your approach it works out well more often than not. Several years back I approached a neighboring land owner on Veteran's Day asking permission to hunt his land - I had access to some 80ish acres but his 40 was what I needed for entry and exit more than anything. I didn't know the guy was a Vet until he answered the door and I saw his hat - first words out my mouth were "Happy Veteran's Day" that was just me being thankful regardless of the outcome - if you take that approach it's a win win outcome even if you get told no! I should have specifics on my new property in the next 48 hours... It's in Parke County which is basically the Pike County of Indiana - I mean we've got some other hammer counties in Indiana but Parke is pretty prime. It's about 45 minutes away from my house is the only problem - so I will be pretty selective about when I hunt this property. But I am as excited as you are about a new place to hang a set!
Yeah I mean - I don't claim to be perfect at it by any means. I can probably field judge a buck better than I can actually get a tape out and do it exactly how it's supposed to be done. I actually have someone do it for me each year because I want to remove any bias and I really don't know what the F I am doing. But give me a trail camera photo or a hero shot and I can eyeball that sh$$ pretty good.
I have my good buddy and he’s a taxidermist do mine. That man right there kills some big ass deer every year in Tennessee. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
In all seriousness what do you think this deer would score and how old? I haven’t asked anyone just knew he was a good enough deer for me (especially my area of Tennessee) and I was going to take him. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well, that's a tough picture to judge by, but if he's just pretty much a typical 8 point, busted brow on right side, I'd guess 100-110 and no more than a 3 year old.
Sweet, really wasn’t sure. One I’ll be happy to take if he walks by me! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Yeah tough picture to tell - but I’d be pretty confident he is north of 115” and south of 125” So I’d call it 120” based off a tough photo. Younger buck for sure likely 3.5
Even though I don’t have anything of note on camera I’m not too worried. The pin mark is where I hunted a 190” buck a few years back (pictured below). We’ve got some giants in the area they’re just not showing up where we need them just yet. The yellow is my lease. My own 15 acres are located just outside the bottom of this screen shot and my hunting buddy has 60 acres he hunts within the screen shot. We’ve got a really good handle on this neighborhood. Had the buck within 30 yrds at last light one evening and it was just too darn dark in the thick timber to let err fly - we’ve all been in that position I think?! It woulda been a 30/70 shot and factor in other hunters hunting him I couldn’t do it - woulda been legal shooting light but the timber just made it impossible. He was eventually killed about 100 yards from the pin in the same block of timber by another hunter... Needless to say I haven’t forgotten.
I haven't. I'm not sure if you can or not to be honest Where do you live and hunt now? There are plenty of good deer around my area but it is just so dang hard to get permission now a days. Other hunters on the land already or Chicago guys lease it for an arm and a leg. These buck pics I'm seeing are getting me pumped. Someone is shooting a dandy on our team this year....I can feel it! So here's a fairly easy one to score. What do you all think my big 6 would score and age? Let's all practice with our different bucks we have on cams and see how close we are when we give them a dirt nap.
