One of the best things about NY. No bugs for season and it's usually cool

It'll definitely be 80 or better here opening day unless we get some weird pattern like this coming week. Suuuucks hunting in 90 degree temps Slugger.

Checked my first card. So far 1 new 10 has showed up at this stand site, but he looks young. Also saw my first one shedding his velvet. Got a nice closeup of a younger buck then here's a couple young bucks going at it. So those posted backwards, the young 10 is on the bottom then work your way up from there. 20200906_103432.jpg 20200906_103204.jpg 20200906_101637.jpg 20200906_102628.jpg

Checking a few cams today counting down the days that these lush beans turn and get harvested. Put out a few mock scrapes. Nothing of note to report from the card pull but only had 2 cameras up.

After today have 7 up on 3 different properties.

I only have 3 or 4 stands yet to hang and all the hay is in the barn for deer season 2020

One of my favorite places to hunt on the property. Completely isolated bean field with a 100 yard walk from truck to stand! Love this spot.

Shawn it’s time to invest in a phone card reader brother! Lol I might buy you one so I can appreciate all the great trail camera photos you get since I got a bunch of dinks running around...

So how much do those dang things cost? Would love to, and I know I have some nice bucks, but I do get nice pics from time to time. Here's actually some nice shots of Super 8. 20200906_114046.jpg 20200906_114004.jpg 20200906_113923.jpg

Just got back from what I thought would be a quick set. Turned out no one could make it out to help and wheeler didn't want to stay so I walked a mile to set pulled it down then carried it back to the other part the farm.
Found a great spot in the woods and another on the corn edge. Put the woods set and going back tomorrow to put up another since I liked both spots too much to decide.

Might go hang a stand later today. We will see it’s going to be a warm one...

Had a lone doe come by the cell cam this morning. One that I would take. They are definitely using that ridge to travel, acorns everywhere. I’m curious when the neighbor is going to cut his corn. I have decided if the temps stay the way they are going I’ll be off Sept 26th-October 1st and is will hunt everyday, all day.

As of my now my deer vacation is as follows:
    Sept 26th-October 1st
November 7th and 8th (Oak Ridge)
    November 14th-18th (Oak Ridge)
    November 27th-29th (LBL)

The Oak Ridge hunts may get thrown to the side depending on what’s happening on the farm. I also will be hunting Tuesday morning, Wednesday all day, Sunday all day. I get home at 3 every day except Tuesday and every evening is open for hunting. (All dependent on weather and babysitting lol)

For like the last 15 years or so I always took off the last week of October and the first 2 weeks of November. This year I just don't have that much time stored up due to unforseen circumstances. With that said I'll plan my time off accordingly and I can take days here and there on short notice and hunt the fronts. I think I'll still tag out, just like I do every year.

Decided to watch some videos on butchering deer for different cuts of meat and it's always good to see some different techniques. Just watched some from Huntsteady with a butcher in Connecticut that was blowing me away. Bearded butcher does some good videos too, but I really liked this set of videos. Started doing my own several years back and still kinda suck at it, so I like to learn as much as I can. I do know I need a seriously sharp and large filled knife now. Holy crap he was doing some work with just that.

*edit: it was homesteady not huntsteady.
