My laptop is having some issues. I keep getting an error saying that Window Explorer is not responding. I believe there is a virus on my computer, so I'm trying to install new anti-virus and restore my computer. I'd like to have a working laptop when we start homeschooling my boys next semester. Does anyone have any advice/suggestions? TIA
If its just internet explorer not working then check your connections.....is it wireless or a cat5 cable direct from modem to computer???......if wifi.....does your smart phone (assuming you have one) or another wireless device pick up the signal....is the wireless card/switch turned on on the computer (sounds stupid but mine is really easy to turn off so I always check that first)......did you try unplugging your modem and or router for 30 seconds then plugging them back in...its hard to tell you without more info....im no computer guru but tgats a start Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
Boot into safe mode with networking, you can do it from startup, usually f8, or go to start/run/type "msconfig" and hit enter. Go into the boot tab and hit the radio button for safe mode and tick network beneath it. (easier just to hit f8 repeatedly on startup and select safe mode with networking from the list). See if that fixes the problem, if it does it could indicate virus. Download and install a malware cleaner and run the scan in safe mode. That's the best way to remove malware. Have you tried googling the error code/message? That's how I usually figure out what's falling over sent by carrier pigeon using flapatalk
This is what I did. I first removed a bunch of programs that don't need to be on there for my kids and homeschooling. Then I downloaded an avast Pro trial and installed it and then ran the full scan. As of this afternoon that seemed to fix most of my problems. I'm still going to defag and remove a bunch of files. It was Windows explorer, your start menu, files, stuff like that. I had a virus on the computer and took stuie88's advice.
Glad it worked, might be worth running a second cleaner through (something like malwarebytes), sometimes one AV program doesn't have quite the same virus definitions as another, doing that you will pick up any residual junk. Maybe also use ccleaner (piriform.com) to clean up any registry nasties left behind. It is probably ok if the error is resolved, but if you have the time better safe than sorry sent by carrier pigeon using flapatalk
Avast is good...you should run a boot time scan as well....it gets viruses before they boot and can hide..... Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
