I am looking @ buying a laptop computer in the next month or so. I know nearly nothing about them. I want to keep it at/under $1,000. What should I look for and avoid?

I have an HP Pavilion laptop with a 17" screen, but I have kinda had some issues with it. If I were you, I would try and get a Mac, I wish I would have

I was in the same boat....My laptop just laid down on me and I went out to get a new one. I ended up getting a Apple Mac pro 13.3inch screen and it is the best thing I have bought. The price is high but it is a great product. You should be able to get one around 1200. I know it is over your budget but it is worth it. I was also set on a 15inch screen but the 13 does just fine.

I have a Mac - it is everything you will ever need. You can get them used. Apple backs their stuff better then anyone else, too.

    NO VIRUSES.

The newest lineup from Dell has some pretty affordable options and they make a solid computer.

I've had an Inspiron 1520 for over 2 years and it hasn't given me any trouble. That being said, when the time comes for me to buy a new one, I'll be purchasing a Mac.
