AP Hill is a great place to hunt. plus look into the urban bow hunting in northern Virginia. when I was up there in 2010 they had bow hunting at Ft Belvoir but you have to take their safety class in September (as I recall). if you've got access to military bases you should be set for a lot of good hunting up there.

Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is nearby. Good deer and bear hunting there, I think that they have hogs too. There is also Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge that has both whitetail and sika deer. It's about 2 hours from you but I think you would enjoy it. You are always welcome to come up and hunt Maryland with me as well.

Thank you. I wouldn't be able to do it without an amazing wife by my side.

As I recall Ft Belvoir archery safety course was a special one to take into account the requirements of their urban deer hunting. But you would be worth it to check with them. AP Hill and the rest of the bases I believe will accept any hunter safety course. they do down here in Florida.

Belvoir is quite a bit away from Langley, AP Hill and Quantico are much closer. There are also WMAs you can hunt, Chickahominy is close by. I believe that there is still hunting on Oceana (VA Beach) but it has been a while since I was there. There are plenty of public places to hunt but honestly, the military bases might be your best chance for success. I know a lot of guys that hunt AP Hill and do very well (huge base). I work at Quantico and can vouch for it, smaller than AP Hill but still a lot of deer. You only have to qualify at Quantico if you want to hunt main side (3 out of 4 arrows in the boiler room from an elevated position at 20 yards.

Ft Belvoir will take a bow course from other areas otherwise you will need to take their course two out of three arrows in a 6 in target at 30 yds. They also hunt the early and late doe season runs from September to March I think all of the military base operation have been ruled as no Sunday hunting by the fish and game. Quantico is closed to the early and late doe season as well Good deer and turkey at any of the military locations
