He stated his property was 33 acres . Id say he has a good chance of needing to track and recover off a neighbors land at sometime .

But, what if you just got a trail cam photo of a unicorn by your stand and you drew the only unicorn tag in the universe that year? Now, tell me that you don't have a moving ethics compass. Be honest.

As a small acreage owner, I understand just how tricky this all can feel. BUT, you have to think big picture. Is your chance at shooting a deer worth people thinking your a jerk for not letting them track a deer into your sanctuary? I think we should put ourselves in others shoes before we make decisions like this. How would you feel if you shot an animal and were not granted permission to track it? Why would anyone want to put someone through that, just so they could potentially kill a deer? Seems like our relationships with people should come before our desire to kill a deer.

Do Unicorn sanctuaries exist? I bet it's kind of like the land of Oz. That would be cool as heck. Maybe the munchkins can help.

Munchkins wont help me. I wouldn't let them look for a deer on my property once. I'm still on good terms with the Oompa Loompas though.

Here is what I do oh sure some may consider it selfish but it does prevent issues and concerns. Any guests that hunt my land get to do so after I am tagged out, once I am tagged out I don't care who goes where on my land, plus in a year the bucks will get over the trauma of having a human set foot on a certain square footage of the property.

That's not selfish at all. It's your land and your rules. That's a better way to do it than letting someone shoot something but zone C is off limits for any recovery.

I have no studies to point out, however, after years in the woods, I feel we are oversensitive to disrupting sanctuary locations and or messing up areas for much longer than hours if not a day or so. This does not even go into the science of core areas for doe and buck nor how buck could care less about a human during the rut.

Walking through a sanctuary will chase all the mature bucks out of there for the rest of the hunting season? If they love the area and feel safe, they will not go far or will be back shortly. Messing the area up for gun season, doubtful. Look at PA. Bear season is right before buck season. The woods get pushed so hard for bear that deer would be chased to NY and NJ.

Heck, there are articles written about bumping mature bucks from bedding and posting up very close waiting for their return.

Could not agree more. I think Sota is doing it exactly right for the situation.

This 100%. Especially during the rut. The buck you blow out of a sanctuary can follow a doe back in there 10 minutes later and cares little about any human intrusion. He has one thing on his mind and survival is not really his top priority.

The best buck I ever took with a bow was in a timber that was grid searched by six guys just two days prior. If you move slowly and quietly, half the time the deer don't even know what spooked them. They wont put up with being bumped frequently, but once in a while will not burn them out of an area where they want to be.

Yeah but you don't know people here. People here will tell you they shot a deer and ask permission to walk your property simply to kick deer out to their buddies on the neighboring properties. I grant permission only if I go along and search only if I can see blood crossing the fence.

Good points everyone, knowone is right or wrong.
As in everything in life, we all do things differently.
My decision to do what I do may be called " greedy" by some but my decision to let others hunt when they can't find any other place is satisfying.

Lots of newbies have shot their first deer.
I get worked up on threads like this when the word " ethics" come up.
Most will dogpile on what I said but,.. , I expected it but I'll I'm honest about.
Most don't have land where they have spent a HUGE amount of time, money so they can't understand the feeling that it brings.
" Ethics" should be the same whether it's a mouse , deer, elephant.

Fletch, you should be more careful with your way with words!:poke:

No more senarios, knowone answered the last one honestly which I expected.

From the guy using "knowone" as a word.

Your "ethics" are illegal here. So carefully, I will call you wrong. It's far beyond greedy. How satisfying is it to deny someone their trophy? Most guys that weighed in here have land and fully understand the "feelings".
