Anyone have experience with putting in a water hole/ small pond for wildlife? I’m gonna put one in roughly 15ft wide and 20” deep, I have my skid steer at the prop so it will be easy work. I was gonna line it with 20 mil black pond liner. Was considering hauling water in some barrels and filling them down at the pond on the bottom of the prop and making trips till it’s filled. I have my generator and a pump I was gonna use to fill and unload the water. Any tips or ideas ?

Not a hunting project, just clean up Cutting wild rose from flower shrubs and berries, cutting back a spreading Quince bush. It produces Quince and did this year but I have neglected it for years. I've been at it foe hours. Actually 2 bushes that grow together and out to 30ft long 8 ft wide. In fora break . What a mess I have to clean up.

Just make sure you have really good under padding. Your in PA? Rocks migrate up, every winter. Tree roots travel pretty far. Also bury your edges with a 1-2 ft. edge of hardware clothe over it. You would be surprised what will burl under that lining then chew a hole in it.

Good luck Suncrest. Even though I'm right on a river, a small watering hole up on high ground is enticing me to try it.

Even though my pumpkins were 20230622_200352.jpg up and growing, after yesterday's 1" rains, they exploded today.
Pic was taken 1/2 hour ago, June 22.
I may give 0317 the vapors, buy a crossbow and just post on my deck this year. Lol.

Way ahead of me....not sure I'll get the pumpkins in this year. Actually not sure I'll get any other plots in either. Had grandson this a.m.. long Gator ride, chicken and turkey time with them then a tour or the garden . Peas off the vine and fresh strawberries to snack on. Then lawn darts activity books and lunch.tomorrow daughters coming over. Family always first.

No actually not I always plant them first few days of July. They are then ready for Halloeen. They (grandsons) are still a bit too young for that.
Though this year the temps are so cool that seeds I planted 2 weeks ago are just now sprouting for winter squash. That's with black landscape fabric down. melon plants have only grown and inch. This will be a good cold weather garden this year, but not so much for the heat lovers.
I can't complain I'm personally loving it being cooler. If only the weather report for rain weren't just...lies!!!
    LOL

Just got the water hole in. I’ll be back out tomorrow to fill it up. The water hole is 35 yards from my stand in the clover. I’m gonna throw some more clover seed down where I turned up the soil. I went with a 110 gallon water tank from tractor supply. I was worried that the pond idea with the pond liner would puncture.

Be prepared for frogs and tad poles
Now I use old bath tubs, kio pond liners and the old goats watering tub like yours. I buried just one bath tub. I put blocks under it and used a rubber stopper in drain hole. Well I have a couple of crops of tad poles in that filthy thing every year. I stop0ed buring them and they get used just fine. I just stack logs around them. They don't give a hoot about the color either. Enjoy

Well I have to say again, so important to know your plants. Today I had to VERY CAREFULLY pull a young giant hog weed plant out of the garden. It appeared out of nowhere a week ago right next to a single turnip. Wasn't quite sure what it was when first spotted. Now it had lots of "hairs" this put me on edge but decided to see what developed. Well this morning I just knew when it went from 2 to nearly 5 ft literally over night..
It's crazy as careful as I was and in no way came close to it touching skin or oozing sap on me. I waited until after latest storm and with many layers between it and me I grabbed the base and carefully pulled it out roots and all. Well my hand has felt like I've been cutting jalapeños bare handed. I know it's a mental thing ,just so strange.

Finally got some much needed rain a couple days ago, went up to the property to fertilize the clover finally. They say we are going to get some more rain this, week we’ll see about that… the new clover area is still hanging in there and doing better than I expected with the lack of rain.
The other established areas are doing fine. Also got a few apples on the dolgo crab apple trees that I planted 3-4 years ago. I am very surprised that they are still alive after they all got girdled by the damn mice this past winter. 801A7AD7-AE31-4D92-9020-DAEBAC7C003B.jpeg 8E5D2BA0-285C-40B2-AB0E-22AFDD1ECF4F.jpeg D2C1F258-FD22-42C6-A1FF-6278D5E79A1F.jpeg DBBDA037-84FB-49DB-8D74-6CC61E576821.jpeg

There’s leftover winter wheat and native sedge in there, I don’t want to get crazy spraying this year, the clover needs to get more established. Next year will be different.

I have just one window to do a spray anywhere and that's the next 3 days....if the winds calm down. It's raining now but supposedly will stop soon. Then 2 more days of smoke and thunder storms coming in for 4 days straight. A break of one day and then 3 ore days of rain.
Will that all happen? Who actually knows they are rarely right!
I've been pretty on the mark from spring prediction. Cool wet summer. It's low 70's again
Best peas, strawberries, and greens in years. Hot peppers still 4 in. Tall:mad:.
Clover plot behind garden weedy but coming along well. Rest of upper front plot weeds, but weeds the critter especially rabbits are loving. Dang I for some reason can not remember the name, deer loveit too. I'm keeping it cut short and tender.
