Got 2 areas sprayed with the new sprayer, works very well and saves a ton of time. Also refreshed my salt lick and added some minerals this time around.

I checked the new mnt.ash sprouts, They were so small I can't even say saplings. To my delight when watering I found them leafed out and growing well.
Oh my mast trees apples ,cherry, peaches, pears, plums, Quince, aronia mulberry are ALL IN BLOOM. First year ever I have had every single apple in full bloom. Though the weather has limited bees at prime time so production may still be iffy

Waiting to see damage progression from the freeze on blooms. Already seeing some browning in the blueberries and first strawberry. Plums will be another bust I fear. Peaches and pears hit as well.
We are in a heavy rain and cooling down fog. So needed the rain on new p.ots and the garden. Farmer had perfect timing the corn should be up soon.
My woods, to my shugrin are doing a self thinning of what should have been good timber. Stop!I won't go there, that said, like it or not in method it's causing a great under story growth. Now lots of my loved elderberry but also bramble . There are many beech suckering thickets, some I will thin to produce bedding pockets in them. This I'm cultivating in the hedge row along corn field. Some scattered shubs starting. A few huge dying beech getting cut this week in different areas and several bad maples. I waited for leaf out before hinging. A few will need to be trail removed due to lean. A hinge makes cutting up easier for me.

Sprayed a bunch of thistle today, also checked on the new clover again, it’s doing pretty good and the winter wheat I planted last fall is protecting it pretty good now too. I will have to spray it before it goes to seed along with the other crap in there once the clover gets a little more established.

Got my old buddies stand (almost done).
He's 81 years old and I love the guy.
I supplied about 400$ in materials and the labor.. his son and wife about 400$ also.
It's only about 50 yards from my cabin down towards the river.
    Super travel corridor.
Spend 2 full days building it. He was excited when I invited him out to show him a new stand I built only to climb in it and seen the note I pinned to the wall stating " this stand was built with love from his son, wife and myself. He got purdy chocked up.

Gave him permission to use the stand ANYTIME he wants.
Strong Christian man that finally had to give up his longbow and resort to a crossbow at age 79.

Plot up date, grow good but slow. More shade than normal this year, no rainfor a long time until a little today. I dropped a few trees have one cut but hung up and leaves are dying. I have several more to drop. Only bad trees, non timber.
Pics not good due to taken with tablet

Why I'm always behind. Tired of weeding gardening took a break to check clover plot. Well thats just not working well, as I'm looking I still have the hoe in my hand and I'm lifting rocks out. I go to lift one and it won't budge. I start digging and it's getting bigger and bigger and deeper. Crap! Go and get shovel half hour later I finally have the Boulder out of the ground. At least later the disc wont hit it. BTW I thoroughly disced this last year and it was not there. Well at least not on the discable surface. Now I need to bring in a bucket of dirt to fill the hole

Have/Had cedar siding on my cabin for 15 years.
Springtime brings sapsucker woodpeckers that love poking holes in it. Then the mice find the holes.
Tore off one side and just put on plywood. Got it mudded up today and finished the trim.
This time I mixed a gallon of dirt, a gallon of wood ash and 2 gallons of water.
    Turned out great. 20230528_135751.jpg 20230528_135751.jpg

Went up and disked the plot I sprayed on the 16th, got a good burn down but more grass seeds we’re already starting to germinate again. I will plan on spraying it again in about 2 weeks to get another good burn down, hopefully it will knock the seed bank down again. If I have enough time before planting I will probably do it a third time. AF, one thing I've learned (and still have trouble doing) is...
Every time you (me) disturb the soil, it opens up room for new weed seeds to develop.
I struggle with the need every year.
Unless we need to dig in fertilizer, I'm "slowly learning" there may be more harm then good overall disking/cultivating.

It would be great not to disc. Problem is I don't like all the spraying and I can't afford a drill and definitely Not crimper. That said some plots can be done early spring with just the drag . Things like lime and nitrogen actually need to go into the soil. Lime works particle to particle contact and nitrogen evaporates into the air. A tad expensive for that to happen. So unless fertilizer is water based disking is needed. This said my plot strategy is starting g to change.

    I think I'm done.
Got the glass put in,caulking n weather stripped.
Built a smudge fire in it,closed it up tight and just 2 Very Small air leaks.

Can't say I'm excited about it but it'll be nice to have the option in real crappy weather.

The Ladino clover plot it overlooks.

Got the clover plots mowed, new clover is still doing alright. Good thing the winter wheat was still there to give it a bit of shade so it isn’t burned to a Crisp. We need rain badly…

The brand new section of trail plot of just clover and rape is now growing with low ph and shade. The throw and grow with added rape and clover is doing great considering the heavy shade and lack of water. Clover is finally showing with the slow growing rape and the rye grass in throw and grow.

Spent all day yesterday up on the farm. Clover plots are pretty grassy. Reseeded the one plot, see how it does. Sprayed down the failed plot from last year and a couple other spots. Beans are coming up nice. Got a great rain last night too, perfect timing.

Apparently if I fail at the whole doctor thing I could have a hell of a grow operation, lol. Mary Jane everywhere.

Tried to do some mowing too but the damn thing smoked and wouldn't start the mower belt again, just had the damn thing replaced. Not real thrilled.

Had the new pup with me and he made a great sxs companion. For a break we worked on finding some pheasant wings in the grass. He's a smart pup, good on fetching. 4 months old fox red pointing lab. [IMG]
