this is my latest pyrography. it's based or is a photo taken by a great photographer who gave me permission to use his photos for my artwork. i may do some more tinkering but i need to stare at it for awhile, but i'm finished for the most part. it's on a 11 1/4 X just shy of 36 inches poplar board. i routed and sanded the board before i burned it. i am pretty satasfied with the results, hope you like it too. i took a bunch of photos of it but i am no photographer.... enjoy....Jay
Hunter, have you ever considered opening up a small online custom art business? Clients could send in pics of their pets, loved ones, hunting trophies, etc and you could create custom artwork to meet their needs. Heck, I bet you could market at places like PetSmart and the likes and get a decent response at the right times of the year, or even get on E-bay and begin by using products you have already manufactured along with an option to take personalized requests. Just a thought. You could also market with traditional bowhunters, personalizing their quivers and other leather gear. Maybe even get an in with motorcyclists in your area for custom leather work. They love the individual flavor as they ride.
thanks everyone, i did burn a little more on it, but it basically looks the same. i really wish i could get better photos of it, i suck! the photos really don't do it justice, my wife said my photos of my art a crap . this is by far the best burn i've done so far. virginiashadow.... i may end up getting a web site at some point or selling my stuff on ebay or esty. right now i have no desire to be loaded with commissions though. i do enjoy making things for people, and i like the money, but i don't like doing the same pics over and over. like doing the dog pics, they can be neat, but i'd quit if i had to do dogs all the time. plus i like doing pics i want to do vs what i'm asked or paid to do, if that makes any sense? i wouldn't mind making a living doing this, but i'd prefer it to be me making money for my original works vs commissions. but i have no real plans so i'll just see what happens
maybe a little better photos??? my wife thinks so, but this is it totally finished, not too different
I'm sorry I have to ask this; I've seen a couple of your threads and your amazing work but I haven't followed too closely... but this piece really got my attention. Do you freehand this? Or have some kind of computer program that laser-etches it for you or something like that? What kind of equipment do you use? Sorry for all the questions... not looking to get into this by any means -- just curious and want to appreciate your talents more.
FREEHAND, and no i don't have a lazer, would be nice cause i could make copies of my work to sell cheeper. i draw the stuff out in pencil, then i burn it with a adjustable temp pyrographt kit. it's basically a temp. control box, which consists of an on/off switch and a round dial that adjust the heat from 0-10. it has one cord that's the plug for a regular outlet, and another cord that is for the pens i use. the different tips and tools are called pens. i have no idea why they are called pens? here is a photo of my "work area", it's actually my living room with a board on top of a plastic tote with shelves. i plan on getting or making a table/ art easel eventually. i like burning in the living room so i can hear/watch tv, listen to my stereo or whatever.
