DSLR's do not use the lens control protocol that these controllers output. They are intended for high end consumer and prosumer video cameras. They generally allow you complete lens control and record start/stop without touching the camera. One handed operation is a huge plus and the fact that you are not touching the camera leads to smoother camera work.

Great thread guys. I have the Sony NX70U also and was debating between the Varizoom and Manfrotto model. I think it will help my hunting videos. When zooming in and out is it better to slowly zoom in or go fast? Can you set the zoom speed to stay constant?

Guys, I have been downsizing my gear, going lighter and smaller. One of the things that I am selling is my Varizoom VZProL LanC controller. Last winter I sent it off to Varizoom to have the cord replaced as I noticed a crack in the insulation and did not want it to short out. They went completely through it and basically it is as good as new in terms of operation. It is all aluminum construction. I painted it black to take the shine off of it. The marks you see are simply handling marks in the black paint. I assure you that the unit is in great condition. It works excellent and gives you full zoom and focus control as well as variable zoom rate control, record start/stop, LED indicator, and will power on and off your camera (this feature may or may not be compatible with all Canon/Sony cameras though). Very solid controller. Just too big for my current needs. Brand new this retails for $229 at B&H.

I'd like to get $150 shipped to your door (lower 48), via Paypal. Let me know if you are interested. After a week or so I'll take it to ebay where I have been seeing them go for $150 and up.

I'm running a HFS100 with no LANC input. Supposedly canon makes an adaptor : RA-V1 that allows the use of a remote. Any experience with this or know where i could get one?
