Buddies Bill, Boar and myself took the 3.5 hour drive east yesterday morning to Algoma, WI to do a little brown trout fishing. It started out pretty decent with our first in the boat 10 minutes into the trip and 2 more over the next hour. Then, it got sloooooooow. We ended up boating only 2 more the rest of the day. The wind was out of the west and the water was pretty clear. Good for driving the boat on the lake, but it doesn't stir up the bottom and bring the trout in. Anyone else do and fishing on the Great Lakes? My buddy Boar with a couple of our fish...
Dan those sure are a couple of nice looking fish! We are hoping to get out this next week and give it a go!
Actually they aren't that big. The first one was about 3.5# and the other 8#. We have been trying to go for awhile, but the winds have been too strong and from the wrong direction to try taking the 17.5' boat out. Where you going?
We'll be fishing from the shore in Port Washington, we catch em' there every year! Dominic caught this salmon, 33.5 inches, from shore with a light weight rod on 8lb test! It was awesome, he's on the wall now!
Nice fish there Joe, your son did good!! Never fished the great lakes yet. Cool pics there Dan, pretty looking fish!!
Nice fish Dan, and BHF. I used to fish Lake Ontario up in N.Y. on the lake and in the tribs., but I haven't been up for a few years. We caught salmon, steelhead and browns. Now I mostly fish the Lake Erie tribs when I get the chance.
I have never fished lake Michigan except for the harbors during ice season. I am really hoping to get out this year for the first time! Great pictures but it looks like the colors are off cause I know those bibs your buddy is wearing are grey and they look more blue. But still great pictures!
I don't think they are a true grey, look at the boat seat....it has grey in it. I think its the bibs.
Great fishing there Dan! My boat's snowed into the driveway right now. I may hook a second rig to mine in tandem this weekend and get it pulled out. The kings are here and I'm stuck in the snow! Photo tip: force your camera to flash in those photos and you'll get rid of the shadows on the fisherman and still keep the colors on the fish.
Great tip Rob. I normally always use flash for that exact reason, but I had to take my wifes camera and I couldn't figure out how to turn it on at the time. It was either auto or off.
I used to go on a boat quite frequently years ago and would catch many nice Lake Michigan fish, however, in the last number of years, I'm limited to a few excursions when the salmon are running up the rivers in the fall. Hers a 39" that I caught in the Oak Creek a number of years ago.
You havent lived till ya come to the western basin of lake Erie and pull 4-7 lb smallys out all day long !
Mmmmm, brown trout fillets wraped up in aluminum foil with butter/garlic/lemon and thrown on a grill Those are some beautiful trout, I can't wait till next week for trout season to open and I am hopin to hit up Erie for some steelhead this fall!
