Getting in some last minute fly fishing before bow season starts. My brother and I fished streamers in the surf of Lake MI and I managed to catch one. Catching a king in the surf on a fly around here is no easy feat so I was pretty happy about it. The first run was about 125 yards! We were in a two man inflatable pontoon boat so we got dragged around a little. :D

9'6" 8wt and 250 grain sinking line. It was only about 10' FOW. Fly was a glow Murdich Minnow. Here is a non glow version of the same fly I fished after it got light. Basically an alewive imitation and this pic happens to be of a chartreuse one (even though alewives are gray/silver ;))

Great catch! Fly fishing something I've wanted to try, just haven't had the time to get around to it. Plus, not very many people do it around here

Nice fish. Got to get back out there to catch and release some kings. I used to go every weekend during the winter for stealies and quite a few times in Sept for the kings and cohos. My weapon of choice was a 9 wt.

Lake MI king on a fly...update

Got out on Lake Michigan again yesterday. This time there were more fish around and my brother and I managed to land 5 and lose a couple more. Some were smaller jacks, but still a lot of fun. Here are a couple pics and a short vid.
