Just wondering in your experience, how long does it normally take for deer to tolerate it?

How much camo/brushing in do you do?

    Thanks

I set one up last Friday after my morning hunt and had deer walking right by it that night.

I know they will go by them pretty quick at night from past experience, but what about daytime? Thanks Raceway.

I meant that night when I hunted the stand. They honestly haven't paid any attention to it and I hunted it two hours after putting it up. The area gets pretty heavy hunting pressure with a lot of ladders on neighboring properties. The stand in question is sun faded to the point where is has that blue hue to it.

    Oh, I see. Thanks again.

    Anyone else's experience?

I'd be more concerned with the scent that is left behind from putting it up than the stand itself. A lot of them although simple in nature are a pain to carry in, set-up and put in position by yourself, can get quite the workout from it.

I leave mine out all year, so I can't help you with their initial reaction to it, but I can tell you that if brushed in even every so slightly (mine isn't that hidden), they don't even mind it. Had a 6 point 5 yards from it a week ago. Shot my 9 point out of it last year, and proceeded to miss two bucks from it this year:throw:

I have moved my ladder at times and have had deer come near almost immediately with no attention being paid to the stand ... I don't think you will have any issues, Bobby :)

BTW, I dont camo or brush it in...

I've moved my a bunch of times this year and it hasn't been an issue. Just be careful with scent like mentioned above.

To me, deer probably don't know the difference between a ladder stand and any other abandoned piece of farm machinery that is left out there. I never worried about it.

I agree. I've hunted from them the same day and killed deer. Just try to keep it as quick, quiet and scent free as possible. I always wear gloves when relocating any stand.

Me and uncle put on up the Halloween weekend on some scrapes and brother hit a 150 ten in the shoulder the next weekend, which we seen 16 hours later still alive. It was only a flesh wound. So I wouldn't worry about it.

    Bobby,
I wouldn't sweat it, I've moved mine during season before - and actually my biggest buck to date was killed out of a ladder stand 6 or 7 days after I moved it. I look at it this way - it's no different than a limb falling out of a tree and resting up against the tree - it happens all the time.

I agree with what others have said, as long as you've done a decent job getting it off their trail, etc. If you setup right along their main travel route, it may take a couple days for them to get acclimated to the stand being there. In my experience, I've watched deer stare, stomp, and wheeze at a new ladder stand - watched a doe from a nearby stand through my binos at one particular stand. I set the ladder for my son to use the next day, and this doe was NOT thrilled about it being there. It was too close to the main trail, but it was on the only decent tree we had available along the swamp. Within a couple days they were walking right under it.

I don't think I'd worry about it too much as long as the deer won't be walking right up to it. I'd be more worried about scent. If you got rain in the forecast I'd go in right before the rain and set it up, that way your scent gets washed away.

my dad and i put up my ladder stand, i went back the next weekend and jumped a mature doe.....dad was in it last weekend about a month after setting it he had a nice 8 walk by at about 20 yards and 3 doe and a button buck walked right underneath the ladder.

he missed the 8 point, but didnt spook him so hopefully he walks back through this weekend
