I was going to hunt this afternoon but got a call this morning letting me know that a brand new ladder stand we set up for my buddy's dad last year got destroyed. The stand was set up on a sweet point on the end of the woods along a tree line and 100 yards from another set of woods. The tree it was in snapped in half sometime since last season and Pops was unable to get in it today. I ran out to check it out while they went and bought another stand. I was able to salvage one piece of the ladder, some bolts, clips and the seat. The rest was twisted, broke and bent beyond repair. The good thing is that we moved the new stand in the middle of the 11 acre woodlot where I had an opportunity on a hunge eight point last season. I think I am gonna be using the new location a little as long as pops isn't sitting in it with his crossbow old stand The new stand inbetween several trails.
Yeah race Id say it just a little twised I have a two man stand that a tree fell on and twisted the snot out of. I spent hours after bringing it back home, dissambling it, heating, bending and welding to get it back to par. It sucks dont it?
I feel bad for pops, he doesn't get out much and didn't feel like walking to the other ladder stands. The guy just got out of the hospital a month and a half ago with quadruple bi-pass surgery so we decided to set it up closer to where he parks. I am the grunt for all the stands since I didn't have to paint the property owners interior for the cost of paint
Like said before, be thankful no one was in the stand when it went down. I was in one a couple years ago when the tree got uprooted. Fortunately, it hung up in another tree. Unfortunately, I had to get the stand out while the tree was at a 70 degree angle and just another tree holding it up! Pops will be dropping a nice one out of the new stand!
I got one mangled pretty good the other day. Sweet little area along a creek in a perfect funnel between two bedding areas. I hung a ladder stand down there last week. I decided to do it before we got all the rain they were talking about so it would wash the stink out of the area. Got it up and trimmed just before the rains started. 15 hours of rain and 4 inches later that creek I mentioned turned into the mighty mississippi. The whole area was flooded. Flood warnings all over TV. I'm not entirely sure where half of the ladder sections ended up. Looks like something got wedged at one time and was making the seat part twist around the tree because somehow the supports and platform are twisted a little. Oh well live and learn. Good spot for a hang on or climber lol.
