SW Colorado. Think the nearest town is Grand Junction or Monrtose, some where in there. GMU 63 DIY style. I have never been out there but my buddy I am going with has hunted rifle season one GMU over in 54. So between the two of us neither of us really know what to expect. I have set my expectations pretty low. I figure elk or not I still get to experience the mountains. Just bought tags a couple days ago and the excitement is building.

You going through an outfitter? Where abouts?

Shut the front door!!!! I'm hunting on a semi-guided hunt right outside of Montrose. Basically I'll be along the Cimarron Ridge in Uncompahgre National Forest. Unit 65.

Something that has worked well for me is try to catch them coming out of the lower elevations in the morning on meadows that have direct sunlight. Mid-day try to concentrate on water sources and dark timber. Evenings, look for feeding areas as they are coming down from the higher elevations. I know it's basic information but I found my first year out there I followed that plan and killed a nice 5x5 set up between two meadows and a water source at 9:15 in the morning.

Well I wish you the best of luck. I have found elk hunting to be addictive and majestic. Nothing like waking up at 4 am and hear those big boys screaming their heads off.

Awesome! Thanks for the tips. You'll have to let me know how you do. Like I said experiencing the mountains will be enough in itself. Hear an elk, cool. See an elk, awesome. Kill an elk, ultimate.

Couple deer I'm focused on this year. HUNT0225.jpg

This was him last year. CDY_0013[1].jpg

Last year we scored him around 105 inches. This year he should be around 120 inches.

And this is the one we call Caesar. We rough scored him around 140 inches. Caesar.jpg

Looks like he is only a 7 this year? Or does the angle just make it hard to see the 8th point? Couple nice bucks there either way.

I think it's the angle of the photo. They are both 8 pts.

    Caeser is a stud!

We do need a team name, Yes Deer stands out of those 2 only because I've been married for 20+ years. I'm not terribly creative so I'll leave that to you guys.

Bow hunting for Elk is a bucket list item for me that needs to be crossed off before I'm too damn old to do it. Definitely jealous of you guys that are heading out there.

Here is my nomination for a name Kyudo Killers with this logo Creeping Death.jpg

Kyudo means way of the bow. It's from the Japanese Samurai era.

    Just my 2 cents.

I don't know about names n logos but I won't have to worry about killing anything if I keep shooting like I am today. Trying to shoot my 3d target at 50 and it is not pretty.

Checked a couple cams today. Bad news is one camera took nothing but sun/shadow pictures. Even worse news is I found a heavy trail leading to a clearcut that I wanted to move a camera to but I decided to leave the shadow camera in its place (didn't check pictures until I got home and as I'm typing this I just realized that camera has a screen and I could have checked them on site...DAMNIT!). Maybe I will go back in a few days and move it. Now for the good news.

Bobcat031 checking in! Bring on the bow season.
I'm from Michigan and I hunt the lower half. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and having a fun season.
I got my son I law started in bowhunting a few years ago and he got me hooked on this contest. some of you might know him on here as Evilstuff.
any ideas for a team name or logo?

All right guys, we need to decide on a team name and captain. I was captain of a team last year and will do it again if no one else wants to, however if drenman is willing due to the fact he started the thread-Thats ok too.

now, the lowdown on me. I have exclusive rights to 40 acres and have access to the 400 acres directly adjacent. I have only seen a couple "trophy" deer, but the population is high. I am primarily a meat hunter.
