Sounds like a hell of hunt Bryan. Glad you had fun. I posted my sika deer on the score card page, so that will be another 50 points for us. Couple pics if anyone is interested.
Congrats Keith! I saw very few deer over the weekend, just not there yet. I passed a big forkie and a couple of fawns. Can't wait for the action to really heat up, coming quick!
Again, nice work Keith. I slipped out with my son to one of the acreages I picked up this year last night. We sat in a blind and probably set up in the wrong place, just couldn't see much. At last light we spotted deer in the field 200 yards away, looked like 2 does with fawns but it was dark enough they were just blobs. I've had a couple buddies texting that the young bucks are starting to try to chase, should be getting good soon. I have a busy week this week, probably won't hunt until the weekend. I'll hit it hard the next week but then have a business trip right in the middle of prime time. I'll get back and have 3 days before the orange army invades the woods. Based on what we have on camera and have seen on hoof I think I'm officially going into "if it is brown it's down" mode. I've only had 2 deer in range so far this year and honestly I probably blew it by not taking that small buck the other night. At this point I need meat in the freezer.
Bryan, that sounds like it was an incredible experience! I would sure love to chase some mulies one day. Again congrats Keith on your Sitka!! Ive been seeing quite a few deer around me lately, the ones i wanted to shoot were too far or never gave me a shot and all the younger bucks like to hang out around my stand giving me great broad side shots lol
It is better than whitetail. A little darker and less of the iron(gamey) flavor some people think whitetails have. Really more like elk meat. Should be a great weekend here. Conditions are shaping up very nicely. We are getting rain Wednesday into Thursday with highs in the 60's. Friday there is a 12 degree dip and clearing skies. Not to mention the moon is waning. I'm hoping to see some increased activity in the woods.
Looking at the score card and we have really put ourselves in great position. Team 2 is creeping up but with the rut gearing up I think we are going to put some bucks down soon. This should be fun!!!!
I've been out 1/2 dozen or so times and have yet to see anything from a tree stand. Can't wait till the rut action starts up and the temps cool down. Pretty disappointing season so far.
Headed out all afternoon today, I would have like to have been out this morning but I have a meeting. The wind blew hard all day yesterday and thru the night, hopefully the cooler temps and light winds this afternoon have them up and around this afternoon.
I put a doe down this past Sunday, so another 50 points for us. Rut is heading up. Hope everybody gets out and gets some action.
great job on the scoring guys. I'm hoping to get out this weekend and hopefully see something at least.
I couldn't agree more. I listened to a podcast with Charles Alsheimer and he thinks this week is going to be really hot. I plan on sitting all day Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
