There's no hunt clubs that I know of around where I'm hunting. As far as other farms being managed I'm not quit sure on that either. My father-in-law just picked up this hunting land 3 years ago from the farmer he works for. It had never really been hunted tell we got it a few years ago and now I'm the only one hunting it because my father-in-law hurt his back and he's done bow hunting and the brother in law I used to hunt it with isn't hunting anymore either. So I'm guessing the minimal hunting pressure it was getting has kept the buck on this property and let them grow into the nice bucks that I'm seeing now.
That's really impressive to grow deer of that caliber just straight away on annual rainfall. The downside is that's why your dry weather last year had such a negative impact I'm guessing. Must have some pretty decent soils out that way with good calcium and PH. I'm happy for you that they had such a great run this year. We're probably going to kick azz in this states competition!
Ya we didn't have any mass what so ever last year and lots of broken racks and broken points!!! But this year with all this rain helping things grow the deer are looking great!!! And if we lose this states competition I'll be upset lol!!!
I've walked around and scouted. I have stands to hang, but haven't found the time yet. Not sure if I'll hang them or not. I like the mobility the Summit offers me, although, there just aren't as many trees for climbers here in Kansas as I'm used to in Arkansas. I also have to buy my tags and FR permit. I am concerned with the amount of hunters I fear I'll see while in the woods. Who knows though, maybe I can use that to my advantage. It's only a few weeks out. I'm pretty excited. I am ready for the cooler weather to get here too. It's been really hot out lately. BTW, if any of yall are around Fort Riley, and want to buddy hunt, let me know. I enjoy hunting in pairs and my "buddies" are 8 hours away in Arkansas.
It felt good outside today! In the morning it's supposed to be cool too. I saw deer moving at noon yesterday on my lunch break. Unfortunately, it's supposed to warm up a little bit on the opener Monday. Soon after that, I hope the cool weather sticks around. It may be a decent early season. Good luck everyone!
Better Late than never! Live in Overland Park and have a farm in Jefferson county. Sat out last night and have a 140 buck bed down in the beans at 59 yards.
I'm getting skunked. I'm seeing more hunters than deer. I'm really ready for some cooler weather. I can't motivate myself to go at 80 degrees.
I never cared for season opening Sept 15th, I always waited until about a month later when stuff starts getting good.
Anyone in the Ft Riley area? My nephew is stationed there (been there about 2 months or so) and wants to get in to bow hunting. Told him Id ask if anyone is in that area and ask about some good archery shops over there. Thanks!
whats the action looking like for everyone so far? Hoping things heat up later this week so they'll be good to go for me on my week off next week!!!
Hey I justover to Leavenworth after being medically retired from Active service. Was wondering if anyone knows some local game land or how I can find some private landaybe to get some early scouting in. I'm after Deer turkey and rabbits. Thanks.
