I'm looking for a guided Deer or Elk hunt in Kodiak. Looked into Afognak Lodge guided hunts and Horstmans Guide service. Anyone, familiar with these businesses or know of a quality Kodiak guide? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
stinger, there are not to many guys on here including myself that participate much less like guided hunts. Not saying anyone will look down on someone here that goes on them but, just not a big thing on this forum. May be why you haven't received any feed back on this subject. I hope I haven't offended you in any way, I would never do that intentionally. Guided hunts are just not a hot toppic around these parts of the internet is all. You never know though, somone on here may know somenthing about it. Good luck with it. Guys, anyone?
Kodiak is a small place. Wouldn't want to put KodiakArcher on the spot given everyone knows one another up there. So if anyone has recommendations first hand are from friends let me know. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just saw this today. Afognak isn't the greatest place for a deer hunt but it's about your only option if you want elk. Be sure to check out trespass fee requirements via the Afognak Native Corporation for access areas you're looking into. Also, many of the tags are drawing. Be aware that you'll be afield competing with rifle hunters in heavy cover. Bears are a big issue over there so a guide is a good idea to ensure you have the resources to get one of these critters out of the field quickly and safely if you do connect. They are by far the largest elk in the world with some cows pushing sizes well in excess of a bull Rocky Mtn. elk and bulls pushing moose proportions. Deer hunting is generally better the farther south on the island you get but that is variable depending on the previous winter. The last few winters have been mild so there should be decent deer hunting island wide. Stinger, check your PM for guide specifics.
