I decided to try to find some new places to hunt this fall. I have been hunting a lot of public land but wanted to try to get permission on a couple of private properties this year. I spent a couple hours today driving around and asking for permission. I spent the past week looking at properties on HuntStand that I was interested in seeking permission on. I stopped by 6 properties today, talked with several people, got a few "No's", got one "Not now, but you should come back again later", and I got one "Yes"! The permission comes on a 120 acre property that I have driven past and wanted to hunt for years but finally stopped and asked. The landowner said there are some other hunters on the property but I will deal with that and see how much pressure it gets this year. I'm looking forward to scouting it and hanging a couple cameras in the coming weeks!

Well that’s great news. Congratulations on the new hunting spot.

Do you know if the owner is going to let the other guys who hunt there know you have permission?

Congrats! I was able to find a spot last year by asking around. The landowner was nice enough to let me hunt whenever I wanted to, so I gave him about 20 lbs. of venison, a gift card, and some Christmas cookies, as he refused any money I offered. Good luck!

I need to go do some searching. I just lost a primo piece that I had all to my self for 20 years when it sold to a new owner. But I will adapt and overcome.

@RobertLowe-I am sorry that you lost your spot. I literally used Google maps and drove around farm fields in the early evening to look for deer, then to look for permission. You may want to look up any nurseries/tree farms, as those nursery owners would most likely welcome someone thinning the herd to protect their trees. Good luck!

Very cool. Easy to get deterred by the fear of rejection. Glad you asked and that it paid off. Good luck!

That's awesome! I've been hunting public land for 3yrs and I'm just about ready to start pestering some farmers too! Lol The No's you did get, were at least civil about it?

That is great to hear! I feel like its getting harder and harder in my area every year. A of the property has changed hands from older people to younger family members and they are saving it strictly for their family to hunt and I can't blame them one bit. If I had property I would be the same way.

Yeah everyone was decent about it. No crazy people. I was very thankful for that.
