I have been looking into buying a new knife for everyday use, and I was wondering which type of metal you would recommend? I would like to get a blade that is the best compromise between ease of sharpening, and edge holding ability.

I have heard good things about the VG10 steel, but have not heard anything about the others.

    Thanks ahead of time :tu:

Have no idea what kind of metal's in my SPyderco Caly 3.5. But, I've had it about a month, now, and it's great. Field dressed 2 deer with it, also.

Gri22ly's been carrying his Spyderco for a dozen years or so.

Just throwing the name out there....for something else to look at.

    Knife shopping's fun. Good luck.

**Edit - I just went to the Spyderco site to look. The Caly 3.5 has a VG-10 blade.

Indeed it is, especially when it is not your money. Gotta love birthdays.

I have been trying to decide which knife for a long time. I was looking at the Spyderco Delica 4, it looks like it would be a pretty good knife for me.

If I'm not mistaken, that's the one Josh (Gri22) has. He loves his. And, his recommendation (Spyderco) made my decision easy (for me).

There's a lot of good ones out there, though. Have fun.

I prefer old school Queensteel or Solingen German blades if/when I can find them.
