Guys that take bad shots year after year and don't recover a deer. Never waiting for the broadside shot. Then saying "I think I'm getting a X bow next year" as if that's a cure for taking bad shots. A bad shot with a crossbow wont get you any more deer than you got with a bow. That's my little rant for tonight. I guess I don't get all the guys jumping on the Xbow banwagon. I think I will challenge some X bow guys to a 3d contest after the season is over. Im no competition shooter but I bet I can beat a big heavy Xbow. Did I mention I don't like Xbows? I mean they have there place with people that can no longer pull a bow back but I see a lot of guys that can easily pull a bow back buying Xbows. I don't know why this bothers me so much lol.
I can see disabled hunters that love slinging arrows with a crossbow but personally as long as I can pull my bow there is no need to change weapons.
Nothing challenging about hunting with a xbow. Unless your handicapped or "of age", you should be embarrass
Guys c'mon, isn't it time to let this kinda crap go? They both sling a shaft with a broadhead attached. They booth boost the ranks of hunters. Together we stand divided we fall... If you don't like them don't use them, but don't hate on those that do. In the eyes of hard core traditional shooters compounds are no better
I used to be anti xbow as Wisconsin let's that ship sail next year. As long as it's legal IDC. I have a 300fps, 7 pin good to 90 yards compound. Unless You whittle arrows, bow and chip bh's chill out.
I agree but I do hate the part about guys talking bad shots with a bow then saying I think I will get an Xbow like that is the problem. Not trying to disrespect the Xbows guys just don't understand the thought process of thinking you will miss less or not lose deer with one.
You have to keep in mind that not everybody thinks, feels, or shoots the same. As mentioned above if it is legal...roll with it. Shot placement or the lack there of shouldn't concern you unless it is your game. Again as above traditional may see compound like compound views crossbow - choose your weapon and use it well.
Just as many bowhunters think that changing their broadhead will do the same. I don't know why either
Lets say I take a guy hunting with me on my land and put him in a stand where a nice 8 had been seen by me several times. He sees the deer and takes a shot at it while it was facing away from him because "he was going to be gone". You have to help him look all day and of coarse don't find the deer. He says "I think I'm getting a cross bow next year". Would shot placement concern you then? BTW ,this didn't happen to me but just hypothetical. I would be surprised if it doesn't bother most of you when you here stories about guys taking shots at deer that are low percentage shots then complain about the equipment they use. I know Im talking about two different things here . Shot placement and the use of Xbows. I don't care if someone wants to use an X bow but don't use one because you take bad shots.
Nothing wrong with taking a quartering away shot. That's actually a good shot choice. Only better is broadside. Shot placement can be poor on a completely broadside deer.
I would react the same way I did with too many expandable rodeos. Nobody hunts my place with expandables or an xbow. I have 15,000 reasons every year why I make the rules. Although legal, party hunting bucks and next year's brilliant bonus buck program won't be allowed either. I also won't allow a .222 or .223 either. In that scenario you should have known your buddy was not ethical and told him to only take a 99% sure shot for his skill level. Have you ever checked a new guy in camps shooting skills? Many guys shoot 40 field points just prior to pulling into camp, never shoot bh's and go climb your tree stand only to booger up a deer. Look in the mirror for the blame. Besides thats human nature not to own it. Golf club, scope, ammo, bh? It's never anyones fault.
U know what, I don't care what u guys think. If its legal, then quit trying to change the rules or judge people. It does stink that people make bad shots, but its more of u being jealous that they got a shot, and u didn't. Its something we all need to work on, its called self control. Just this morning, I had a really nice buck come in the last place I thought he would come. U know what, if I had a x bow, it would of been a cherry picker, but I didn't. And using a compound just adds to the challenge. He caught me drawing back and took off. That's just how it goes. It would of been just as exciting to shoot him with a x bow than a compound.
I agree "nothing wrong with a quatering away shot" but facing directly away is not a shot anyone should take. I also agree on the second point but at least when you wait for the broadside shot you are taking a clear and ethical chance to kill the deer. I have never been jealous of someone that makes a poor shot choice and losses an animal. I have lost some deer in my 27 years of bowhunting and learned to no take the low percentage shots.
