So my wife bought a Kirby Vacuum from a door to door sales guy this afternoon. I know.... I know... I wish I would have been here! Anyway... I know the vacuums are considered top notch but what do they cost? Does anyone own a Kirby? What did you pay for it? Thankfully there is a 3 day no questions asked return policy. Now I just need to convince my wife she over paid for it!
I sold Rexair's door to door in college. The dirty little secret is vacuums don't work. The fine dust clogs the poors, which in a Kirby is cloth bag, reducing air flow. This is immediate and cannot be fixed. Think of what would happen to your cars airfilter if you threw in all the dust from a carpet into the intake. Wouldn't be long before it would shut down. The only two solutions are the Rainbow, which uses water and never looses air flow; or a vacuum using centripetal force that throws the dirt to the outside of the chamber and then deposits it. The bad news is getting your wife to return it. Good luck there.
The power of the internet is awesome. I have convinced my wife she overpaid. Now just have to deal with all the BS to go along with it tomorrow. I am thinking of issuing a stop payment on the check just for a piece of mind.
I sold Rainbows for a while just after high school. They are awesome but, a real pain in the butt. Putting water in and then emptying every single time sucks. The Kirby is an over priced Hoover bag vac. As mentioned get a cyclone type vac and empty it and clean the foam filter every few uses and it will serve you well. Truth be told carpet is some nasty stuff if its not cleaned very well from day one. Buying a high end anti microbial padding is more important than the carpet. then keep it vacuumed every few days.
I'd take a Rainbow any day! I use ours for everything. I use to sell water conditioning units door to door years ago - but I really felt terrible taking advantage of people. I sold units to people that I'm positive really couldn't afford them - but the office would set the payments really low, but for several years. I'm positive the customer ended up paying WAY too much for the product, and never would have even considered purchasing it had it not been for the dynamic emotional presentation. These type of sales usually come out of nowhere (you're weren't even considering purchasing such a product were you?). Sometimes someone sets up an appointment from a call center and offers you a free gift just to 'view' the product. However... once inside the door, the sales person sets in motion a presentation that has been designed to strategically play on your emotion to purchase. The whole technique is psychologically designed to 'buy'... cripes - it's impossible for you to even consider living without this product! Good luck Heck in whatever you decide to do...
I have to admit I have had my rainbow for 20 years and no problems. The cyclone types are the ONLY alternative. All vacuum cleaners clog within a few sweeps and leave lots dirt and crap behind, then the carpet gets totalled. My current casa is sans carpet. Sure, I have to sweep a lot, but then if I wasn't sweeping it would be going into the carpet...
Dyson X2. We used to vacuum 3 times a week and then we bought a dyson. first time we used it, we were amazed at what came up in the vacuum.
If you feel emotionally convinced to buy a vacuum cleaner.... Wait until the smoke detector people come.... I still said no. After I got my free steak.
We use Orecks here at the resort. They are light, powerful, and hold up to our abuse. It'd be hard to convince me to buy another brand. 90% of the time I see vacuums at hotels, they are also Orecks.
They're a scam. For the 2 to 3k she paid for the lifetime thing. You could be gotten a 500 $ vacuum every 2 to 3 years for over a decade and be fine. It's technology why would yo u want an age old piece 50 years from now? Think about computers are the old commodore anywhere near as good as our touch phones?
Rugs are nasty and disgusting...you can never get them REALLY clean. That being said, a Rainbow is the only way to go...they last forever and they suck as good at the end of a vacuuming as the beginning (good suck) ...uh...nevermind :D Get hardwood :D
Yes...and if you don't buy them at $330 each... apparently you hate your entire family. They are photo-sensing detectors, the typical Ion detecter will not detect certain kinds of smoke, they go off when you burn your food, but not when thick furniture smoldering type smoke passes through them... etc. Interesting stuff... but pricey... But how can you put a price on your families safety? You have those expensive guns to protect the unlikeliness of a burglary, but what bout the common house fire? Blah blah... They were good... I was just broke. But wait they'll finance it for you! ETC..... hahaha I think he had me added up to $1900 for the whole system... and really it's not a bad thing, but I'll take my chances.
