Hey guys I was just wondering what you guys think my KE is? I'm shooting a 322g arrow at the 55-60lb range...every calculator I've checked says I'm shooting 16lbs of KE, which I think is waaaay low. Any thoughts?

Thats has to be wrong. I dont think that would penetrate very well on a deer lol.

You are shooting 322 gr arrows, what is the speed that is arrow is traveling once shot it?

Example: 322 gr arrows with an approximately 300 fps bow speed equals to approximately 69 KE

The IBO on a bear Game Over is 305fps. I see you are drawing 60# @ 25". With a 322gr arrow your KE should be 40#.

I use this calculator: http://www.backcountrybowhunting.com/articles/calc/ It has been almost dead on (+- 2-3 fps) on arrow spedd calculations I have done when compared to the chrono. You have to make sure you are using the correct IBO, Draw length, Draw weight and arrow weight though or it wont work right at all.

You are welcome. I can see how that would make a person a little uneasy about putting an arrow in a deer.

Yes after reading that before, made me rethink shooting a nice buck, but after all these posts I feel comfortable taking a deer.

Not really sure about all the technical stuff... How much KE is needed to make a clean pass thru with a good shot?

Do you think 40# of KE is enough to make a clean pass through?

What am I doing wrong?? It gives me 8 ft pounds of KE. !!??
368 gr arrow, 26" draw, 40 lb bow, ~205 fps, a d-loop and remnants of string silencers.

INbowhunter #40lbs of KE is plenty.

Is 205 the manufacturers IBO Christine? Because that's what you need to put in that site, not what your bow is shooting

And does anyone know about how many grains a Easton FMJ 340 cut to a 28" draw would be with a 100" head?

Ah... IBO.. I can read, just not too well I guess.. (insert embarrassed smiley here)

IBO is 300 fps.... so I'm right at about 30 ft pounds of KE.

Yes that helps, thanks! I just realized it also has something to help with arrow weight on the site... Mine are actually 264 grains because I don't have wraps so that leaves me with 70 ft pounds of KE

Christine, your setup is exactly 34.4 ftlbs of KE. 368 at 205 fps.

    Thank you Sir!

INbowhunter, I limit my range with my setup but within 25 yards or so, it kills deer just fine. :)
