What amount of kinetic energy is lost in opening and keeping open an expandable such as a 2-blade blood runner?
Last year I used bloodrunners with my martin shadow cat on the pig I shot and the penetration sucked. My buddy used muzzys and the arrow exited the deer and got stuck in the ground (he was shooting a 2 or 3 year old mathews) Was it the broad heads or the bow? I am asking because I really like the cutting diameter of the bloodrunnners but I feel like there is better penetration with muzzys

No doubt about it you'll get better penetration with a fixed... what EXACT amount is lost? Not sure, and don't know if ANYone could tell you exactly.

Most modern bows today should be able to punch a mech through and bury it in the dirt behind the deer -- PROVIDED the bow is tuned to the setup, and you're shooting adequate enough KE and your arrows are heavy enough to maintain a fair amount of momentum in the process.
